They Live being remade; Hollywood allllll out of bubble gum

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/film/news/e3i5a49077a0f8280a031ce1d89cd323f17]Mama don't like remakes.

I am furious right now. Also, no fight scene, no Roddy Piper, NO DICE.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EsZpdUUdd3I&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EsZpdUUdd3I&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Either don't make this remake, or start eatin' that trash can.

Well, much as I love the original (yes, that fight scene is classic) this doesn't bother me as much as some of the other remakes they are doing.

Where does that say no fight scene?

Ok. Carpenter's had The Fog, Assault on Precinct 13, and Halloween remade. Now...doesn't Carpenter own the rights to these flicks? He wrote, directed and produced them, so they're his works. So is it his fault that he's letting people remake his flicks? Or does the Studio own the rights?

Oh ok. I'm sure the fight scene stays. But I highly doubt Piper will be a lead on this. He's gotta be close to 60.

Yet another classic to be re-imagined (re: destroyed).

Well fight scene and Piper's hilariously campy performance aside, the original is really not a very good movie. Fun, but certainly no classic.

I am outraged at the lack of originality with all these remakes. In respect to the filmmaker John Carpenter, I'm going to sit down tonight with some of his best works: Assault of Precinct 13, The Thing, Village of the Damned, and Ghosts of Mars.

No, Escape From New York? Easily replace Ghosts of Mars with this Russell flick.

No, but Escape from LA sort-of meets my criteria.

So long as they don't touch Big Trouble in Little China... Still, this pisses me off to no end.

Are these remakes really making big money at the box office? I feel like sequels are less insulting. Do they still do those?

Wonder what Carpenter thinks of all this. I don't think he's said anything negative about anybody making remakes off of him.

I still never understand why people get so angry about remakes. I love the original, and don't think a remake will ever come close to the charm of it, especially because of the cult status it has now, but eh... can't see it being worth being furious or insulted by.

As long as they get someone, anyone better than the actress who was in the original, it can't be all bad.

Personally, the problem for me is that the original sets foundations where a sequel would be better served to continue the stories. Remakes nowadays are of films people enjoyed to begin with.

A They Live sequel has a lot of potential; do they use the underground portals to fight on other worlds, fight just against the aliens or are there still appeasers, etc. And I'm pretty sure you could add Meg Foster in there somewhere.

Because when you type in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" or "Dawn of the Dead" at IMDB, the remakes always appear in line first.

I think the original is pretty good, but it just scratched the surface. The possibilities are endless. It can easily be topped.

The only way this would work is if McCain won.

Which would then be followed by a slew of posts from people saying "ugh, a sequel?"

Well there is merit to that if it's crappy like the supposed sequel to Streets of Fire direct by Albert Pyun.

If you get Carpenter directing or someone credible producing it, a sequel would be sweet.

It's this generation of young movie goers who refuse to rent classic movies made before 1990's fault.
