Riot (John Carpenter, 2009): Nicolas Cage as death row inmate

From Bloody-Disgusting:
Produced by Nu Image, Nicolas Cage is still toplining the film that follows a death row inmate who is helping to reform a group of juvenile delinquents in a Scared Straight program when a large-scale riot breaks out. The screenplay was written by Joe Gazzam.

The casting of Cage is a a major drawback - was Kurt Russell too old? Still, this might be at least somewhat of a return to form for Carpenter.

I would say Cage has more Box-office drawing power right now even though he has made some clunkers recently. That could have change if Grindhouse would have been a bigger hit. Big fan of Kurts and would like to see him is this instead of Cage but I can see why Carpenter wants a bigger name.

Maybe Kurt didn't want to do it? His production recently has really slowed.

Cage is quite a buzzkill. I'm gonna go ahead and take a wait & see approach to this.

"Credits not contractual" has got to be the worst movie tagline ever!

I like Cage conceptually and this reads like a Con Air prequel, one of my guilty pleasures.

Con Air is one of the greatest movies ever made. It is pleasurable because of that. The only guilt to be had is among the prisoners in the film.

The lack of creativity in the title says it all, this will be to my knowledge the third (there maybe more, I haven't researched it) prison film titled Riot.

I can see why they went with Nic Cage over Kurt Russell. "Unrusselled" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

This has the potential to be really cool, but I hope Nic Cage gets a haircut. He looks stupid with long hair.
