It got a great reception at 2008 Toronto Film Festival, and many pundits are even talking about a possible Oscar nom for Beckinsale. Trailer looks very interesting. Though Schwimmer does seem to be the weak link.

Variety review:
The story of a journalist willing to go to prison to defend her right to protect her source on an explosive story, "Nothing But the Truth" itself resembles a workmanlike piece of journalism motivated by an outraged sense of injustice. Competently constructed and nicely acted by Kate Beckinsale and Vera Farmiga, Rod Lurie's second femme-centric political meller, after "The Contender," takes a similarly critical stand on the abuse of power, but its one-track mind and prosaic approach make the film as laborious as the case is interesting.

"Nothing But the Truth" (Beckinsale, Dillon, Alda) Discussion.
anyone see this?
i just wanted to discuss this with others who saw it. i thought it was pretty effective. very well acted. i just can't believe someone would go through that and destroy their entire life. it seemed so extreme that i am not in a position to fully understand, but i guess because of who the source is i can understand.
so tell me for those who saw it...when did you figure out who it was? i got it at the 55 minute marker when the two CIA agents and Vera Farmiga's character were walking in the cemetery.
so was it that obvious for others? and what did you think overall?

I loved it. I thought Beckinsale was great (as she was in Snow Angels) and Farmiga was as well.
I think it took maybe about 45 minutes before I began to piece it all together.
Was still effective nonetheless.

I thought it wasn't as good as The Contender, though both feel like Lifetime movies. Matt Dillon was the best part. He should show his ugly side more often.

I really like the fact that Beckinsale is starting to choose much better roles. The action thing is okay every once in a while, but I've always thought she was a very talented actress languishing in bad roles. Good to see her finally show off her acting ability. She was also stellar in Winged Creatures and Snow Angels. 3 great films back to back to back. Now the question is her next two films going to be any good. One is Whiteout about her chasing a killer in the arctic. The other is a role with Deniro called Everybody's Fine about a father trying to reconnect with his estranged children.
Besides, she gives me a raging you know what.

The only way to be absolutely sure is to do an advanced Search by Keyword, with "Search Title Only" selected. I have the advanced search page bookmarked right below my forum bookmark, so I can always do a quick check before posting a new thread.

Just caught this on DVD and enjoyed it quite a bit. In response to the OP's question, I never figured out the source...mainly because I wasn't really trying to. I found myself pulled into the story and the character's separation from her family, and didn't pause to consider specifically who she was trying to protect. When it was revealed at the end, I didn't really see it coming.

just saw this on Netflix. Didn't mind David Schwimmer, until I realized that his character is married to a "Rachel."
One question though,

It's been a good while(over a year) since I watched it, but I remember some good performances in a pretty intelligent plot.
Matt Dillon was really good IIRC.
