Pink Panther 2...or How Actors Stopped Acting and Pick Up Paychecks for Being!
Just saw this trailer online (Link via AintitCool) and i had to watch it just to see how bad it could be.
Jesus.
It was even worse than anticipated.
Ok...so we all know that Steve Martin has not been funny for quite some time. Granted we also realize that John Cleese has been the single biggest whore for money for a long time, whilst also not being able to bring so much as a smirk to audiences faces for the best part of most peoples lives. Then we have Jean Reno who was so utterly fantastic in earlier (Besson) movies like The Big Blue, La Femme Nikita and of course Leon/The Professional. Heck i even loved Ronin. But he has also moved into the direction of these prat fall, don't bother acting, turn up and basically ruin your career movies. I really want to help try and save this guys career before he goes any further down this road. Martin and Cleese are lost causes. I mean this trailer is just beyond bad. This is the kind of trailer that even if i was 6 years old, had been blind all my life and had just had an operation to provide me with perfect vision and the first thing i saw was this piece of excrement...well needless to say i would probably clutch the nearest sharp implement and poke my eyes out.
Seriously if you really hate someone or want to punish someone, then simply either show them this trailer or send them the link. I think that a rating of Hard-R or 18 should be given to this trailer as it causes suicidal tendencies.

I am pretty sure profanity in a thread title is not allowed here.

I thought the part where John Cleese was slamming his face into the wall was funny. It seemed like something Herbert Lom might have done. The rest of it looked pretty crappy, but I thought the original looked pretty crappy from the trailers and while it was far from inspired, some of it was alright, like the scene with the vases. Don't get me wrong, I'm not holding my breath for The Pink Panther 2 to be any sort of comedy classic, but I did actually watch the original and it had redeeming qualities.
I still think they could have made a great Panther film with all of the same people. With the first one, I thought Jean Reno should have been Clouseau, Jason Statham could have been his Cato, and Steve Martin would have taken on the Herbert Lom role, because Martin can be very funny when he's playing frustrated.

Steve Martin still has talent, but needs to leave the silver screen for a while and find a good role on TV, a la Alec Baldwin. We're living through a new golden age of television. There's no shame on being on TV anymore. But by the looks of 'PP2', I doubt shame is that high up on Steve's list of things to avoid professionally.

Looks quite terrible. BARELY made it through that trailer! I didn't see the first Steve Martin Pink Panther, though, and wasn't considering seeing this one.

My wife and kids saw a screening of this back in MAY. It was a rough cut but they wanted to know which parts worked and which didn't.
My wife said it really wasn't funny at all but the kids were laughing a lot. A lotta crude humor goes a long way.

I'm a huge Pink Panther fan, and a big Steve Martin fan, but refused to see the first one, as it just looked so incredibly awful. I imagine this will look the same once I see the ads.

I got to Role Models early yesterday and had to sit through that behind the scenes thing they do in the pre-trailers moments, and it was for this. Why do they always do a behind the scenes for crap comedy movies (Four Christmases is the other one I've seen a lot), and why do the actors always try to delve deep into the character's motivations?
"You see, Closeau is funny because he tries hard to do well, but he falls over a lot. Which reminds me rather of Achilles from the epic tragedy The Illiad."
It's a paycheck movie, Steve. Don't try to spin it into timeless art.

I have never watched the first film, and after they kept pushing it back and back and back it seemed like the studio even knew it was a stinker. yet it hit that magic numberr where they start calling people for sequels...go figure

The first Steve Martin "Pink Panther" was absolutely dreadful. And (surprise surprise), it was a box-office hit. Only because of the kids who dragged their parents to see it. I remember many many posts here where adults said they suffered through it while their kids loved it. It will happen again.
Yeah, Steve hasn't had a smart comedy in quite some time. Which is really too bad. He's very talented. Although not a funny film, I loved "Shop Girl". It was extremely well written and acted.

Well, this train wreck opens tomorrow. It has an abysmal 5% on Rotten Tomatoes.. so yeah, not surprised or anything. I just wonder if this will make anything this weekend. This looks so bad. It's playing on 3 screens at the theater by my house, tomorrow. Don't understand that at all.

He was quite good (although not funny) in Novocaine and Shopgirl. And you know what? I thought he was great in Looney Tunes: Back In Action.
