Fry's HD-DVD Blowout - $2.99 - $14.99 (In Store - YMMV?)
So I went in to one of the Fry's here last night, and was blown away by the amount of HD-DVD's left. I took a couple of pics. They're having a huge blowout - all regular HD-DVDs $2.99 - $14.99, and Heroes and Matrix Boxsets were $20 a piece.
I can't really tell you the titles they had, since from what I saw, it was nearly every film ever released on the format. They still had ample shelf space dedicated to it as well as shopping carts just full.

Is that the Fry's in San Jose near the dual 101 junctions?
There are two Fry's on the way to my girlfriend's place. I might have to drop by both this Friday night. Thanks OP!

It's amazing that Fry's are still hanging onto these HDDVDs. And how many are actually at the $2.99 price - one or two ???

No, it's the Fry's in Roseville (outside of Sacramento).
They actually have a lot at $2.99. Most of the one's in the cart were $2.99.. Lethal Weapon 2 and TMNT I remember off the top of my head.
I'm surprised they had this much left, too - but the store is like overstocked to the brim with it all. You can tell they're trying to push them but I have no idea how they're going to unload all of these.

I got Daylight and The River for $3.99 each. Daylight was the first movie on regular DVD I ever bought, and I paid $34.99 for it then!
Haven't made it to Fry's in a few weeks, gotta try to go this weekend and see if prices on the other stuff has gotten any lower. Didn't see Heroes there last time.

I'll try to find the link latter to a ebay sale on HD-DVD lot.
But they had 1000+ HD-DVD and 4 or more titles for bid, brand new.
Like 200 copyies of 1 title like '300' and so on
I wonder where they came from and went.

Did you happen to see if they had the Matrix Trilogy? I may run down there this evening. I know the store off of Lawrence has been out since it went on that 1 day sale for $17 or so.

A lot of these seem to be Canadian DVDs... at least, when I picked up Children of Men a couple of months ago, all were dual language covers in French and English. They play fine, and not all of their stock has that kind of packaging, but that might be where the supply is coming from.

I went to Fry's last night in Phoenix, and a lot of the titles were cleaned out (Mostly the titles that were on the cheaper side, like Daylight). There was a makeshift bin to the side of the display with a sign posted saying that the titles in the bin had stock of 10 or less in-store. A lot of the titles on the display racks were more expensive than the website (last starfighter at 11.98 for instance).
I picked up a few titles (The Thing 8.99, Happy Gilmore 8.99, Smokey And The Bandit 6.99, Excalibur 8.99, Caddyshack 6.99). I was hoping to see a Land of the Dead or Slither, but they had none. (These were all titles I attempted to buy during the current DVD Planet sale, but got an email back saying they were all "discontinued").

Someone told me the same thing before I watched Pulse... that it was a good subwoofer workout, so while watching it I was waiting for great bass. The only substantial bass I remember was the sound the banks of computer servers were making near the end. Is that the scene? Otherwise I must've missed the great sub workout scene.

Meh. This same "blowout" display has been at the front of my local fry's (Duluth, GA) for the last five months, and has moved so few discs that there are still a bunch on the regular DVD shelves. Surely they're not gonna leave this albatross sitting there for Black Friday?

They've got TONS of Heroes and Battlestar Galactica, the shelves are full of them and there's a bunch of boxes of understock around the store too. I would've picked up Heroes if it were still $19.99, but evidently that was a 'sale' price and is now $24.99. It'll go back down eventually. I already got the new Battlestar Galactica on regular DVD for free when I signed up for the Chase/Universal credit card, and haven't watched it so don't know if I'll want that on HD-DVD also.

you can use the in-store computer at frys to access their website and buy with in store pick-up (at least I did in Wilsonville) so Heroes is 19.99 on there.
they took around 5 minutes to grab the movies I had ordered (a few of the online 4.99 titles along with Battlestar Galactica which was 14.99 online at the time)
