Hollywood Video/Movie Gallery Store Closings

Does anyone have a list of the newest round of closings?

I don't know of any store closings, but I got a strange coupon from them in the mail 2 days ago. It was a coupon for erasing all of your late fees. It said to come in, present the coupon, and all of your late fees would be erased, no matter how much you owe.

I don't think I owe anything, but still a "strange" promotion.

I hate stuff like that. Reward the worst customers. I get trying to bring back more business, but if they're gonna do that, then if you're a good customer who returns your stuff on time and has never had late fees, they should give you like 5 free rentals. Fairness is all I ask! Don't just reward the losers!

Blockbuster has done that promotion before. It cuz they think people aren't renting because they are afraid of paying their late fees. So they are trying to get old customers back. However, it obviously isnt the kind of customers they want back, so I dunno...

I'm happy to get the coupon. We were late by one day on some games and they charged us full rental price so I've not been back in the place. The other rental store in town had prorated late fees so we've been frequenting them more. I'm not sure if I'm the kind of customer they want since I never rented DVDs only bought their used ones .

It could also be a sign of their stock finally getting ragged. It's one thing to reward your worst customers, but it's also another to finally give more life to old scratched stock by letting the rabble in to rent it for full price, thinking they got a deal.

I'd be pretty sad if my Movie Gallery closes, their used DVD section is fantastic. They let me open the cases too, before I buy, to see if they're scratched, and since nobody here likes indie movies, they're always cheap.

Re: Hollywood Video/Movie Gallery Store Closings

Hello,
I know that in Maryland they seem to be closing all the 695 corridor stores, taylor ave, Belair and Delaware stores,
They are also hitting some low producing PA stores-What i do not like is that (yes i am an empoyee) They tell us the DAY of our LAST day of business that we have till Monday to pack up and hit the road-HORRIBLE_. I was told its to keep people form stealing and jumping ship-
Not a single person is safe right now-I love the Brick and Mortar stores-Its a shame-
I do agree with an earlier post that we should reward GOOD customers with incentives to come back.
I personally would like to Tell a few higher ups" hey your last day is today" AND NO SEVERANCE PAY. Hit the bricks and unemployment. Yep looking at other jobs-
IN other words folks-we have no clue if today is our last day- I still love all my customers just the company is a huge let down.

I noticed that the Saugus, MA store was completely cleaned out (basically overnight) with no closing sale, just a sign on the door saying to mail any outstanding DVDs to some address down south.
