Well, this explains why the prices went up by ~$10-~$20 each on some titles in my wishlist. Even so, they are still priced better overall than what they would be if I were to wait for that which must not be mentioned. Thanks!

Yes, that's about right (if you're lucky). I have bought extra in the past to sell on ebay and got stuck with them. You're lucky to make 50% more BEFORE fees. It's not really worth the time for such small profit on such big investment (I'm talking Megasets of Upstairs Downstairs, Kids in the Hall, Benny Hill, etc) -- that probablly won't sell for a long time because everybody else is doing it too!

Now I only buy extra if I'm trying to maximize the B1G1 for my own collection.

Check out Amazon.uk

They are listing an 11 disc set coming out. From Fremantle Home Entertainment. They don't give much details but this has got to be more than just the 2 seasons and the movies.

60.77 Complete Prisoner Megaset 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition

Is this really worth it? I was considering buying it, but it's 17 episodes with 884 minutes spread over TEN discs -- that's about 90 minutes per disc. This could easily be four discs, but then they couldn't charge as much, could they?

BTW, before buying, check Amazon Marketplace. Even with the B1G1, some of these are considerably cheaper there.

I was shocked how cheap Secret Agent/Danger Man's first season is on eBay. Some are around $15 new. Put that together with a live.com rebate...

Or, $60.77 plus G1F with DD.

Was tempted to get the Upstairs/Downstairs as a gift to my mom (she watched that show ALL the time when I was little) but I heard (and saw evidence) that the transfer is pretty bad.

Can't you get the whole series for the same price as season one?

^ You're right! What the hell is that all about?

I'm not partaking in this sale, but I *might* have been fooled into getting them both if I hadn't shopped around and saw the cheaper prices on eBay.

As BobO'Link said, it looks like some prices were raised right before the sale. I'm not entirely sure, but I'm *pretty* sure that the Prisoner set was less than $50 just a few weeks ago on DD (and had been for months and months). This appears to be one of those sleazy things that DD seems to do. If they only had full disclosure about this somehow, I'd feel better about dealing with them. But every time they have a sale, you have to question what deal you're *really* getting. This one looks like 50%-off (when buying similarly priced items), but really it might be more like 40%-off.

Still a good sale! Don't get me wrong. Just a sleazy tactic.

In spite of the raised prices I bit on:

Complete Prisoner Megaset
Secret Agent Complete Collection

I know that "Secret Agent" was $45 right before this sale started (and had been since the last 20% sale) because I've been tracking the price in anticipation of the next 20% sale expecting to pick it up for $36. While I'm not sure about "The Prisoner" it is currently $51.99 (marketplace from $37.97) at Amazon. Since DD is typically a few cents (if not a few $$) cheaper than Amazon on most titles, all appearances are that this one went up too but I can't say for sure as I've not been tracking it at all. "Secret Agent" is currently $67.99 (marketplace from $46.99) at Amazon.

Both for $60 was a no-brainer as it's still ~12 less than I would have spent on the 20% sale (assuming that "The Prisoner" was also $45).

I placed my order the morning of 10/18, it shipped on 10/21, and I got it on 10/24! That's quite possibly the fastest service I've ever gotten from a DD order!

I tend to agree, but wonder if this is DD raising the price or the studio offering the promotion setting a minimum price for the titles included. I really want to believe it's the studio/distributor because this seems to occur with every B1G1 sale to a degree, although on the last Anchor Bay horror sale the price of "Blood from the Mummy's Tomb" *dropped* by ~6 during the sale! I was a bit upset because I purchased that one along with another title of the same price. If that had not been the case I would have been really pissed! As the overall price was still a good deal and much less than a 20% off sale I let it slide... but I really thought about calling to complain!

I have no problem with items being excluded from a sale, DD setting minimum prices, the studios setting minimum prices, or anything else. I still remember one of their 20%-off sales a number of years ago when they removed some items from their inventory at the start of the sale due to a request (or stipulation?) from a studio that their items not be included. I think that's fine, too, but I would prefer they had just left the items in the inventory, and advertised a "20% off *almost* everything" sale. Even a link on the "almost" with a little java pop-up window that says "sorry, but studio ABC wouldn't allow us to include their products in the sale, but thank you for shopping with us, and there are lots of other great deals to be had!"

The worst is advertising "20% off EVERYTHING" and then just prior to the start of the sale, raising some items by 25% in order to essentially exclude them.

And although it is technically accurate to do a B1G1 promotion at any prices, since there's no concept of a discount--just an "if you want one at the price we're offering, you can choose another at the same price or less for free," it is insulting to your regular customers who saw the price go up and know they're not really getting the deal that they feel like they should be getting. There's a smarter way to do it that can help you pull in new business AND satisfy your repeat customers who have a big wishlist that they regularly check. DD's just not doing it the smart way right now. They're doing it the easy way. And that's why I don't just trust them and get all excited and dive in when they have a B1G1 (or whatever) promotion.

So, like I said, the items I was interested in seem to have gone up, and the more realistic 40%-off price doesn't get them down to the maximum I'm willing to spend.

Why are these A&E sets spread out on so many discs like this? Are there a lot of extras in addition to the episodes?

The Champions series 1 is part of the B1G1. Hadn't heard of this one before. Anyone here seen it. Is it cheesy like Dr. Who, or more like $6 million man?

It's kinda like both. Be advised that the second half of The Champions will probably never see the light of day in the USA. I've got it in R2 and while it can be lots of fun at times, to me it doesn't reach the level of enjoyment of other 1960s ITC series. Look at its Wikipedia entry for more information.

I think it's due to the fact that A&E was still putting out stuff on VHS at the time of the original DVD release. Lots of their early television titles came in sets of both 3 VHS minus extras, and 2 DVD.
