Anyone else have a lot of brand new broken Blu cases?

I'm sick of going to the store, buying a new movie in a case that looks perfect, and then taking it home and realizing the little tabs are broken off inside and the case wont stay shut on its own. It annoys the hell out of me, especially considering the price of these movies. It's never happened to me with DVD or HD-DVD, only on those stupid cases WB uses for Blu, and now the ones Universal uses. I just went to pick up End of Days (crappy movie, I know), and every single one in the store was rattling inside when I picked them up. I basically HAD to buy a broken case if I wanted the movie for this weekend.

I just bought some spares because I don't want to play the return game when this happens in the future, but I really think there is a flaw with the cases WB and Universal are using. Anyone else noticing this?

i've never had an issue with broken cases, but i had an issue of my Blade Runner set with 3 (1st, 3rd and 5th) discs loose in the case.

I ordered the limited edition version (with briefcase) and when i took the case out it seemed ok but when i opened the case the discs were out but weren't moving. For an $85 gift set they could have atleast used a better case with secure packaging. When i went to the store i was curiously looking at Blade Runner cases and almost all copies had discs rattling inside when i was checking them.

On top of that my 1st disc was the same as the 5th.

Bunch of crap, now i have few marks on the discs, i know blu-ray is scratch resistant but i am anal about my discs having slight scratches. HATE THEM!!

The cases you are referring to are the "Elite" brand cases. I prefer those, but they definitely are prone to breaking. I've encountered 7 or 8, but all were from online orders. Too bad they don't sell those replacement cases, only the Sony style ones with the latch.

I have only had two broken cases. Both were the top left corner from online orders that were shipped from Amazon.

I've gotten a number of these, where one of the tabs are broken on the inside, so the case will only snap shut at the bottom or top.

Another design I hate is the one with the blue flap that you have to push back to open the case...9 times out of 10, that flap will never stay shut again once you open the case for the first time.

I do the shake test, too. Haven't had a broken blu case yet, but I had quite a few on DVD. I also haven't gotten a BD through the mail yet...but I have about 12 on order.

Funny, just had my first in a purchase from Fry's last week. I have a few empty cases set aside for just such an instance. Still try to shake to see but obviously doesn't work everytime.

I only got broken cases once, when a box from Amazon was mangled by the Post Office. Have yet to receive a Blu-ray floater.

I wouldn't say a lot. But my copy of Sunshine has one of the tabs (that hold the insert) broken off. And my copy of I am Legend had a couple of the teeth broken off from the hub. The only time I remember this sort of thing happening with DVDs is with my copy of Evil Dead, which had one of the bits of plastic inside broken off so that the case could not snap shut properly.

I had the inside tabs arrive broken with a lot of standard DVDs, but I haven't bought or received one HD disc that was broken. I still do the shake test when in stores, but I've come to realize that often what I hear shaking is the booklet inside and not the disc.

Broken hubs, missing closing tabs, chipped cases...

I've had 'em all and it SUCKS plain & simple.

(Never once a problem from Amazon though... )

this happens to me also.

The single case is not a problem because you can still find it on the market. but the double or the multiple disc case is nowhere to be found (at least when I'm looking for them a couple months ago).

and yeah. Amazon rocks

I got my first broken Blu-Ray case and it was my copy of Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl that arrived from Amazon. Where can I get replacement cases?

Sorry to hear that Roc!

I suppose in the time it takes to receive the replacement case from someone, you could return the entire broken case copy to Amazon for a replacement.

I suppose. But I also need to send my disc to Disney since it's the missframed version. So I may just order a replacedment case AND send my missframed disc to Disney.

They just started carrying 2-disc cases, so you're in luck.

I feel you man. Not only broken cases tick me off, but a mere wrinkle on the sleeve itself would already had me a little bit irked. I know it's just a pet peeve, but hey... I want the best for my stuff.

Called Disney today and, not only are they going to replace the disc, they offered to replace my broken case and the damaged cover insert. Now that's customer service!

Thanks. That'll definitely come in handy if it ever happens again.

I find that another issue, related only to Lionsgate BDs, is that they put stickers on the cases that leave residue behind. I had to replace them for that reason alone.

Hmmm. I may buy a few of these for instances where I want to combine a Blu-ray with a SDVD which has a bunch of features not on the Blu-ray.

Thanks!
