Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull BLU-RAY 10/14/08
Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' to Blu-ray on October 14th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No technical specs have been announced at this time, though you can expect the typical 1080p AVC video and Dolby TrueHD treatment from Paramount.
Extras will include a segment on how the new movie evolved over its long development period; a production diary including glimpses of location shoots in New Mexico, Connecticut and Hawaii; and segments on makeup, visual effects and the crystal skulls at the heart of the action.
It was also revealed that while a DVD box set with all four Indiana Jones films will also be released, there are currently no plans to bring the remainder of the series to Blu-ray.

I wonder if Spielberg will get them to add a dts HD Master Audio track like he did with Sony for Close Encounters.

I have to admit my enthusiasm for this has been significantly hampered by A) the lack of BD's for the original trilogy of films and B) the utter mediocrity of the film.
I'll still get it for completion of the saga in my collection though - I'm hoping I enjoy it more the second time around.

Yeah, it would be nice to have the other three - but I can't say I expect it to come soon. I'm sure we'll see another version of Crystal Skull when the originals come out in a big box set in a year or so.
That said, I'll still pick it up because I think the rest of my family will enjoy it.

I want it to come with the same crystal skull that the SD is coming with.

Yet, if they did release the entire series all at once we would invariably be hearing from the crowd who was upset because they weren't releasing them each separately, or if they were released separately, there'd no doubt be some extra disc of exclusives only available with the packaged set . . . And so on.
As it is, I think it's inevitible that this will be part of some packaged set with the other three later on. Those three will always sell, but I think it's a pretty shrewd business move to release this one by itself first -- new releases are currently where the big money is at with HDM, remember -- and then "force" people to buy it again later with the set.

I suppose if it helps motivate Lucasfilm and Spielberg to release the original(and vastly superior) Indy movies on Blu-ray, I'll pick this one up.
I'd be shocked if I end up watching this all the way through however. It was bad. Episode I bad.

As bunk said "the utter mediocrity of the film" will keep me from jumping on this until the original films hit BD, if that takes 5 years so be it, I am not biting until then, and I LOVE Indiana Jones.

Waiting for Raiders, as this is one my favorite movies of all-time. I never really cared for the sequels, and if they are only putting out Indy IV, that shows me that the BluRay market still hasn't matured to get me to buy a player. It is catering mostly to the summer movie crowd, and the only summer movie I have really liked in the past few years was The Dark Knight.

I could do without the gold border, especially since the film focuses on a crystal skull.

I expected the original trilogy (not sold separately...because they're dicks like that) + Kingdom of the Crystal Skull separately. Paramount dropped the ball...and on Gizmo and I's birthdays no less!
