Well, thanks to my mother-in-law who's coming to visit, my wife has given the "green light" for a new TV. Can someone please recommend a nice (but not horribly expensive) 52" LCD or Plasma? I have a 46" Philips (with the ambient lighting - I love this TV, actually). So I'm looking for a nice 1080p. Any suggestions? I'm trying to stay below $2500 for sure, if possible.

Panasonic Plasma 50" for $1699

I was going to recommend my 55" Panansonic Viera series that I love but atthe trime it was $3500. I also had a 47" Phillips LCD that was quite nice. Amazon has a 52" version your price range.

You can probably still find a Pioneer Kuro 50" for about $2k. It would be 720p (5080), but it would kick the ass out of every TV you'd plan to buy. It's got reference colour accuracy and blacks that disappear in a dark room. A much better choice than any other LCD you can imagine.

At my local Costco they had this for $1499.99. I had to take a second look to make sure and it was definetly the 1080P version and not the 720P which was sitting a few TVs over for $1299.99.

I would say the Samsung LCD 52750. just got mine for 2449.99 . Might not have the deepest blacks but will never get burn in like Plasma .Just my 2 pennies.

Well, based on advice given here and on AVS, along with a lot of research, I think I'm going to go with the Samsung LN-52A550. I'm not too thrilled about paying an extra $500 for the new 120Hz and Motion Enhancement. The 120Hz would be nice, but I doubt I'd ever turn on the Motion Enhancement (don't get to watch a lot of sports with a wife and three daughters). I just don't know that I can justify spending an extra $500 for those features. Unless I find a killer deal on something else, I need to stick to what BB sells, as my son works there so the discount is REALLY good.

I was THINKING about the LG 52LG50, but not sure I'm ready to roll the dice on that one. With his discount, it'd be $100 less than the Sammy.

I just kind of figure that with the extra $500, I could buy a receiver, as I'm moving the 46" Philips to the upstairs, and the Sammy would be in our basement.

Well normally I'd 2nd that...but if the Pioneer Kuro (even at 720p) is in your budget I would go,

Pioneer 1st choice
Panasonic 2nd choice if cost is an issue

I finally picked the TV I want to get: The Samsung LN 52A650. I'm not sure what the difference is between the 550, 650, and 750, but this TV looks fantastic.

Came in here to recommend the Pioneer Kuro Plasma, but I see you're already made up.

Well, I haven't bought, yet, so I'm still open to suggestions. I just like the idea of saving several hundred $ and getting (what I think most would agree) is probably the best TV I can buy for about $1700, with my son's discount at BB...

But please tell me if there's other thoughts. I'm just thinking that the A650 doesn't buy me much, other than 120Hz, over the A550. I seriously doubt I would watch anything much to take advantage of AMD. I really need a matte screen, also, as I have a window directly opposite where the TV will go... I plan to buy on Friday, so keep the suggestions comin!

Does the Kuro have a glossy or matte screen?

doesn't the samsung have a glossy screen? if so, it may reflect the window located opposite from the tv. i recently purchased a sony 52w4100 - i am still waiting for it to arrive, so i cannot offer any specific advice
