The Strangers BLU-RAY 10/21/08

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman horror film 'The Strangers' to Blu-ray on October 21st, day-and-date with the DVD release. The BD-25 will feature both rated and unrated versions of the film encoded as 2.35:1 1080p. Audio will come in the form of 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.

Extras for this release include deleted scenes, a featurette called "The Elements of Terror", and a BD-Live feature called "My Scenes Sharing" which, if the name is any indication, will allow you to share your favorite scenes with other fans of the film.

The first half of the film is terrific, but I think it goes a bit downhill after that. I'll probably get it though as I liked it pretty well.

I read on blu-ray.com that the unrated cut is only 2 minutes longer. I really hope it's an alternate ending.

Watched this one a few days ago...damn that DTS MA is excellent. Easily one of the best mixes I have heard all year on Blu-ray. If you want a good horror film on Blu-ray this year...GET THIS! Shame Universal only included fifteen minutes of special features though

A great premise with some shining moments (the lack of dialogue in many parts was fantastic and the No Country-esque lack of music in some scenes), but the degeneration into standard X-treme horror territory makes it collapse.

I agree on all counts. This would still make a pretty good rental for those who haven't seen it at all though.

I saw this in theaters and it didn't do much for me. It was just a lot of Liv Tyler running around and crying and then that violent ending. It was shot well but it wasn't even remotely scary in my opinion. Unless you are scared by a person in a goofy mask standing right in front of you one second and then not being there the next second, I would say rent this one first.

I really liked it, but I think I'd wait for a sale. There aren't any meaningful extras, and it's not something I really see myself watching again and again.
