I was just curious if anyone knows if there are any releases that are exclusive to Canada besides the bi-lingual versions. Are there any titles released up there that are not released in the states? Thanks for any input.

other than that steelbook there hasn't been any real exclusive releases up here...at all. Can't think of one.

I don't think there are any exclusive Canadian releases (besides few steelbooks that were exclusive to Futureshop or Best Buy)

I haven't seen some of the Canadian distributors, such as Seville and Alliance, produce their own Blu-ray titles yet.

There's a few upcoming in August including Amélie.

Because the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em are all taken from regular NTSC TV broadcasts, they wouldn't be a very good upgrade over DVD. Maybe next year they'll take the HD broadcasts and mint a BD, 'cause, you know, with all that money CBC saved after ditching the Hockey Night in Canada theme, they might decide to spend that money on BDs.

I believe it is just small changes in the dialog, such as the original "Philosopher's Stone" versus the Americanized "Sorceror's Stone". The idea was that American children would be unfamiliar with the legend of the Philosopher's Stone so they used the made up Sorceror's Stone.

In the first book, quite a bit of the British slang was changed with the idea of making it more understandable to American children, to the ire of many who would have preferred that they just stick to Rowling's original text. The moviemakers made two versions of the first movie to reflect the different versions of the books.

The "Philosopher's Stone" version was released on Blu-ray in Canada and the UK. The Australian release claims to be "Philosopher's Stone" on the case, but the actual disc inside the packaging is the American "Sorcerer's Stone" version.

Amelie is unlikely to have English subtitles. The studio releasing it only has distribution rights in French-speaking Canada, and their DVD edition had no English subtitles so as not to conflict with the English-friendly release from a different studio.

The movie is distributed in French-speaking Canadian territories by TVA Films. Their DVD edition of Amelie had no English subtitles, and I would expect the same for the Blu-ray.

The movie is distributed in English-speaking Canadian territories by Alliance Atlantis, which typically licenses its releases from American studios. Their DVD edition was simply the Buena Vista DVD with an Alliance logo on it.
