Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy Boxset - 9/16/2008

amazon.com has this up for preorder:

http://www.amazon.com/Pirates-of-the...5015759&sr=1-1

Release date is September 16, 2008.

Does anybody have any real information about this?

It probably contains all 3 movies in one box...

Now I wonder if it will be a 3 disc set, 6 disc set or more. I currently have a 9 disc set myself. 3 discs for each movie with the lost disc and 2 bonus BB discs that came with the last two films. Maybe they will do something nice and include even more bonus discs?

Looks like amazon.com and dvdpacific.com have made a mistake.

Eh...I filled out a disney survey about a month or so ago asking for my interests in such a set ...I trashed the idea as hard as I could. Looks like I was in the minority

The cover art is ugly... "3 movie collection"? Why not just call it a "Trilogy" since that's exactly what this is.

Oh, wait, let me guess... Disney's holding out hope that they can make a fourth one with Johnny Depp.

I wouldn't use the phrase holding out hope. As much money as this franchise has made, I wouldn't be shocked to see 3 more released. I believe Depp has said he would be up to play Jack Sparrow again. Luckily, the Will Turner/Elizabeth storyline is complete and we shouldn't see them again.

Keep in mind, of course, that this is "promo" art with the titles and lettering blown up so that when it's reduced to a tiny inch-sized square in a Best Buy weekly ad you can still read what it says. It's not what the actual art will look like.

I already have the 3 separately, but that's kind of cool. I don't see why these sort of things didn't come out with the release of the 3rd movie on Blu-ray initially.

Meh. I already have 2 and 3 and finally ordered 1 from Amazon. What I'm more concerned with is how you identify the missframed version of 1 from the correctly framed versions. It was some numbering on the inner ring, right?

Why is Amazon's information not "real"?

May I ask why? What's the big deal about releasing a POTC boxset? If I didn't already own 2 of the 3 I'd buy it.

I was kind of wondering the same thing.

I own all 3 movies on DVD and was waiting for a "3-pack" before buying any of them on Blu-ray.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy Boxset - 9/16/2008

Is the difference in PQ of these movies on BD compared to upscaling the DVDs night & day, or is it not that big a difference?

I have all 3 of the 2-disc DVDs and am debating on whether or not to jump on Best Buy's sale price of $44.99 this week for the BD trilogy.

I had all the 3 2-disc dvd sets w/ 3 bonus discs and went with the upgrade to the BD trilogy a few months ago when it was on sale and personally i couldnt be happier. The quality is amazing compared to the DVD. I watched the DVD's at least a dozen times and the BD's blow them out of the water. The detail in Davey Jones is awesome, the cloth textures pop out and the backgrounds look amazing. The soundtrack is really loud too. The other great feature is the fully rendered 3d skull menus on all 3 discs. The other fun addition is the live action liar's dice interactive game. I never can win but it was fun to play a few times. I would personally recommend it if you love the series alot and would watch it over and over again.

I was afraid that.

Hopefully I can get a decent price for my DVDs.

The DVDs are worth pretty much nothing. I sold them off last year after I got POTC:CotBP via the 5 free Blu-rays promotion.

I see the 6-disk "trilogy" selling for about $25-26 on ebay. Mine are all minty with slipcovers.
