DD vs DTS.... on a reciver

ok is there a big sound difference having DD vs sound of DTS.. on a receiver....

reason i ask is i have a receiver but does not have DTS just DD pro logic II... but have a chance to get a receiver with DTS and DTS ex.... woudl i noticed a difference in my movies....

On some movies you would notice, but preference is variable. A soundtrack which has the designation also may not exploit the benefits of such coding due to the inherent quality of the movie's soundtrack.

Dolby Digital and Pro Logic are not the same. Pro Logic uses a stereo source to produce a center and surround channel. Dolby Digital is generally five or more discrete channels.

On DVDs, DTS is encoded at a higher bitrate than DD and generally sounds better. Not significantly better but it does sound good.

If it were up to me, I'd save my money and buy a receiver that supports the various HD codecs used on Blu-ray discs as well as full HDMI support. Even if you don't have a BD or HDTV, now, you will, eventually. The receiver you want to buy is obsolete, though it would work fine for what you want to do, right now. Down the road, though, it will be very limited.

ok thanks for the info i will stick with the one i have that has DD and DD pro logic II. seeing as with DTS i wont notice a big difference... no sense on buying it just for the DTS...
