sorry, I just read an earlier closed thread and was stunned at this comment thrown at Bjork (as well as Tori Amos, who I don't think is exactly a radio artist either). I suppose Bjork is fairly mainstream if you're really really into the eccentric/avant garde, but to most music listeners, how is what Bjork does comparable in any way to mainstream pop radio music?

If you seriously can't differentiate what Bjork did on Medulla and what Britney Spears does, you seriously need to expand your musical horizons beyond Motorhead.

Bjork has several radio hits, mostly from earlier in her career. But "Human Behavior," "Army of Me," and especially "It's Oh So Quiet" got a lot of airplay when they were released. Still, I don't see how anyone could confuse her with Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake or anything of that kind.

Bjork was on MTV all the time back in the wayback era of the 1990s, so yeah, that would make her a pop blip. She's alternative, but hardly underground.

She's never really been a singles artist, which makes comparisons to the like of Britney Spears even more obtuse and condescending.

You can't argue that JT is not a pop musician, but he's hardly a "pop blip"... He's sold over 75 million records (if you count N Sync). That puts him above Springsteen, Nat King Cole, Bob Dylan, James Brown, The Police...

Selling a lot of albums is not the same as a lot of airplay on pop radio. Aimee Mann, for instance, is a pop radio blip, but that doesn't mean she doesn't sell records or have a lot of fans.

...she had one song ever chart there. It hit #88.




I don't think you can even count someone as a one hit wonder if they never even hit the "top 40"

Note that I wasn't making any value judgment on Timberlake or Spears, just that I cannot see how you'd confuse their music/career paths with Bjork's.

I would say that as far as pop radio is concerened that Bjork would be a couple notches below Right Said Fred.
