ok, what is In Flames' best album?

I personally like the new album "A Sense of Purpose" but from many of the reviews ive read online and what not say, that the new stuff sucks, and they've gone soft ect. Anyways, out of their older material (pre come clarity), what is consitered their best album.
Thanks.

Personally, I'd say my favorite albums are The Jester Race, Whoracle, and Colony. After that, I think they kind've went south.

Jester Race is an absolute classic.
I actually like some of the newer stuff, too, though. From the "new" era, Clayman is my favorite.

Jester Race
Whoracle
Clayman
Colony

So far, I only like about half of their new album. The vocals on the other half are moving into emocore (for lack of a better term) territory, a little too whiney.

Seeing them Saturday, though, as they have always put on a good show.

I have not heard much before Reroute to Remain, but I do love that album. All the ones after that are just OK to me.

I would say Colony too, but if you're going to go back to older In Flames, I would suggest you'd be better off listening to some Dark Tranquillity instead:
The Gallery
Character or
The Mind's I

Is their newest album worth checking out? I am seeing them on the 10th of may opening for Arch Enemy and kind of wanted to check them out to get a feel for them.

No, the new album doesn't really do anything for me. Everyone says The Gallery is their best, with good reason. It's a more complex album, though, the songs don't really have a normal song structure to them, they just kind of go whereever they want. So it can take a while to get into.

You can't really go wrong with Dark Tranquillity. I prefer Character and Damage Done, but they are all really good.

I'd agree except for Projector (horrible clean vocals) and the debut, Skydancer (lousy production). On the whole though, Dark Tranquillity is what In Flames would sound like if they had any actual substance.
