Last night I went to see Spamalot (Monty Python) in London - I loved it! Hilarious
It was supposed to be Alan Dale in the title role of Arthur but it was his understudy instead!
Great songs (not only the Python movie ones but some other original ones) but also very, very funny indeed. Some numbers have choreography that recall musicals like Singin' In The Rain or Fiddler on the Roof, and the songs are great and seem to stick in your head, maybe as they sound like other songs. Eg Find Your Grail sounds similar to You'll Never Walk Alone or Auld Lang Syne, maybe its just me
They send up songwriting clichés (eg The Song that Goes Like This) and manage to sound unfamiliar yet familiar (if that makes sense).
Also the other Python songs (Bright Side of Life etc) were there, the audience all sang along at the end. The script, taken from the film, with all the classic lines, is brilliant and I laughed pretty much non stop throughout the show. Certainly worth seeing.

Saw it last year and frankly I'd give it a 3/5 (at best). IMHO the best lines/song were the things taken from the original material. All the new stuff just wasn't of the same caliber.

I thought it was very well done

The wife and I saw it opening week in Chicago and I wasn't that impressed. It really seemed like watching the local renfair group recreate Holy Grail at the local theater in the park. My wife loved it however and has the soundtrack on her iPod.

I had a chance to see it when I was in NYC. Clay Aiken was (or is) the 'star.' No draw for me.

Really?! That would be like making an X Factor winner the star over here.

I saw it in Toronto. It was funny, but I think my expectations were set a bit too high so I left disappointed.

yet it felt like I was the only one laughing at the line:

'someday son, all this will be yours'

so is this a new trend for Movie Talk - talking about theatre if it relates to a movie? I like.

I think the Black Knight scene would have been better if it had been done marionette style (i.e, not with a real person) - the scene is played too far back for anyone to see if a) they had bad vision or b) they were in the last row in the balcony.
