Saturday Night Live (03/15/08) H: Jonah Hill, MG: Mariah Carey

I'd lot rather look and listen to Mariah Carey than Janet Jackson who was scheduled to perform.
Posting this early incase you want to check Mariah out also.

Someone stole my thread and posted a day early...

Shame. Shame. Shame.

Oh well...

Bring on the fat guy!

(Here's hoping for a Steve Zahn cameo.)

With Jonah Hill, it's entirely possible we'll get Steve Zahn, Justin Long, Michael Cera, Seth Rogen, Jason Segal, or any of the group that all apparently "hang" together...

If he is promoting Horton Hears a Who, then we might not see the entourage... but if he's promoting Strange Wilderness we might (that's what I was implying).

Seth might be around then, he was in Horton Hears a Who.

Oh good, they were able to replace Janet Jackson with someone equally worthy of my mute button.

The bit with JH as the 6 year old at the Chinese restaurant was hilarious. One of the best skits in recent memory.

I guess it wore me out though. I fell asleep right after that and just woke up about 5 minutes ago. Oh well, I'll catch the rest in a few weeks on the rerun.

Next episode host (April 5) is...
Spoiler:
Christopher Walken! Always a great host.

Senor Goose, you're slipping. (And i'm hopped up on controlled substances to get rid of this cold!)

Anyways...

Spitzer & Associates - It was better than the opening for the past two weeks. (Though EW seems to think they were more cutting edge than ANYTHING Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert has EVAR done). My enjoyment was increased by not having to be subjected to Poehler first thing as the show started.
Opening Song - Remember the old days when there'd be something called "a monologue"? Poehler.
MacGruber - Meh. That means there'll be two more, huh? No Poehler.
What's Your Situation? - Yet another appearance by Poehler is offset by the 1st appearance of new boobie girl. Jonah should've just written the script on the game show cards.
Benihana - Poehler was there, but so was new boobie girl. It was funny how Jonah was spending more time talking to the cue cards instead of the people around him.
MacGruber - Coming soon: Christopher Walken! - Panic At the Disco -
the Suze Orman Show - Meh. Not bad, but not good either. No Poehler.
Digital Short - First skit of the night that Jonah hasn't been acting for the cue cards.
Mariah Carey ("Touch My Body") - It's official. She's lost any octaves she had. However, she can whisper pretty good.
WU - "Bitch may be the new black, but black is the new president, bitch." 'nuff said.
Target - Apparently, Hill is contageous. Wiig spends almost as much time staring at the cards as he does. Poehler.
NBC Special Report - Not a good Brian Williams. Hammond's McCain wasn't bad. Dozed off at the "ending".
Music Producer? - Not sure about this one since I was Zzzzzzzzzz.
Mariah's second "song" - Thank you TiVo FFWD hack. (However, I am wondering why they brought out a voodoo priest...)
Tad's Steaks - New boobie girl gets a skit that's her "own". However, I noticed that she hardly (if eve) looked at the cue cards. Should she even be on this show?

Jonah Hill started off shaky, but got his groove quickly. The LAST skit, normally the weakest, was surprisingly very funny - the blind date at the steak place.

BTW, the DIGITAL SHORT with Jonah Hill falling in love with SNL veteran writer Jim Downey, playing Andy Samberg's dad, was hilarious.

It might've been a bit gimmicky with the gay May/December romance, but hey, I laughed.

I haven't watched this yet, but I'm guessing that the placement of the sketch was a message placement to the new girl, who apparently has the first sketch revolving around her after just 4 episodes. Putting it at the end where mostly unfunny stuff plays is a message that she shouldn't get a big head.

Of the skits I watched:

Benihana: not funny, switched after a couple of minutes
Digital Short: not funny
WU: some good jokes. I left when Tracy Morgan showed up
Target: not funny

At least SNL is consistent.

Back in those days, any new sketch started in the last half hour. They don't have that luxury these days. I still think they try to enforce that tradition with new cast members, though.

Jonah Hill was far worse than Ellen Page. He stared at the cue cards all night and never stopped moving his hands.

This show needs to be put out of its misery.

Was Mariah the first musical guest to have the fans blowing out her hair during her performances?

Anyone else notice Mariah's crotch-cam angle? Who in the control room thought that was a good idea.
