Penelope (Palansky, 2008) — Christina Ricci with a pig nose

The trailer makes it look insipid but I really enjoyed this movie. It came across as a fairy tale without trying too hard (compared to say, Big Fish). It was funny, and Peter Dinklage is absolutely fantastic in this. The script could've used a little bit more polish but overall this was a great little movie and I'd recommend it to anyone as long as you keep your expectations in check.

I liked it.

The main problem is that the film goes nowhere when Penelope finally interacts with the real world.

I saw it's world premiere a few years ago at the Toronto film fest and thought it was good. Light and fun... I hear they've made cuts since but I'll wait for video to see it again.

I thought it was cute. Not great or anything, but I definitely enjoyed it more than the DVDTalk reviewer who gave it one star.

I just saw it and I agree with those who liked it. Not by any means great but a nice, whimsical, sweet story with a moral, even if it's rather obvious and not exactly subtle.

I agree with the poster who singled out Peter Dinklage and I would also add Catherine O'Hara as a standout.

***/****.

a few YEARS ago?

How many movies has Christina Ricci done that have sat on shelves for a few years before seeing the light of day? I know Prozac Nation, This one... is it her?

(disclosure: I LOVE Christina)
