PS3 not displaying a screen

Just wondering if anyone can help me with this. Turned on my ps3 to watch a movie today and got the load screen (the little ribbon type effect with the symphony start up sound). After that my screen stayed blank with only the ribbon showing on my screen. No menu of any kind to be seen. I turned it off and back on and same thing. I once again turned it off, gave it a few seconds, checked all my connections and turned it back on. Now I don't get any screen whatsoever but the green power light is on. The kicker is, it won't even allow me to turn it off, via the touch power button. If I try to turn it off that way, i get a succession of short high beeps and nothing happens. I turned it off from the back, turned it on again and same thing. I've had this thing for two months, haven;t played a game on it, just watched about 10 blu rays on it. When I'm not using it, I turn off the power at the back as well. Is there a manual reset or something I can do, or do I have to send this ugly piece of shit in to have it fixed. Anyone?

That's weird. Is there a disc in the drive that is perhaps stuck? Have you tried unplugging the power cord, waiting a while, and plugging it back in?

Yeah I've tried everything. Even tested the connection from the hdmi to the tv by plugging it into my hd dvd player. I unplugged it all night, nothing this morning but it's still powering up. I think I'm sending this in...

Do you still have the old AV cable? Might want to try the RCA connection just to test.

Well, I go to turn it on again, just to try plugging it in through the rca's and lo and behold it starts up no problem. Keep in mind I haven't touched it since yesterday morning. Weird.
