Has anyone watched the 36 8-minute web shorts shorts on Myspace? I read they were re-cut to make 6 1-hour episodes for this series. Premieres Tuesday at 10pm on NBC.

This is from Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, the producers of Thirtysomething, Once and Again and My So-Called Life. I really like these guys work and will give this a try.

I watched the premiere, thought it was ridiculous. like a 40 year old executive's idea of what myspacers and youtubers are like. why is everyone so damn depressed and gloomy? many of the actors are miscast and it reeks of Dawson's Creek 10 years Later. It'll probably be a big NBC hit

I gave it a quarterhour, before i decided that I didn't, and wouldn't, like or care about any of the characters. Guess I'm five years too old.

I enjoyed it, but I think I'm smitten with Dylan, though she's got just a hint of Marty Feldman's eyes. I think I like the pacing of these collected episode (3 into 1 commercial hour).

A little over the top but not terrible, I like Dylan as well.

I'll watch it if it's on but won't go out of my way if something else is on.

It is a little overkill with the doom and gloom, but being in the "adjusting to grown up life, it really fucking sucks" group, I see where it's coming from.

I liked this...I think they hit my generation (25 year olds) pretty good. Although above a poster said are people really that depressed all the time? The answer is yes actually...but they are not that blatant about it. Aside from that, I think it was a pretty good representation.

I watched the first half and was not impressed.

I think I'll be watching the rest of the episodes on myspace since I don't want to wait for the network airings of it, but won't mind seeing it via the hi-def feed for its Sunday airings when they show up.

NBC's 'quarterlife' shortchanges net

The debut of NBC's new series "quarterlife" marked the network's worst time-period performance in at least 17 years and has thrown the show's fate into imminent jeopardy.

Premiering Tuesday night at 10 p.m., "quarterlife" received a 1.3 national rating among adults 18 to 49 (3.1 million viewers and a 4 share). The show came in a distant last place in the hour despite having a relatively strong lead-in from "The Biggest Loser" (8.1 million, 3.1/8).

The show had a preliminary rating of 1.6 this morning, then dropped sharply in the afternoon nationals after Nielsen factored local station pre-emptions from the Democratic primary debate.

Though no official cancellation has been announced, sources say the series is expected to be yanked after a single airing -- a rare event that previously occurred when Fox axed "Anchorwoman" last summer.

NBC Co-Chair Ben Silverman said "quarterlife" was "so worth the try."

"The web site traffic went up a huge amount and we continue to try new things and new models," Silverman said. "It's very inexpensive but we hoped for higher ratings."

The series made headlines when NBC picked up "quarterlife" in November after it debuted on MySpace, with producers Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick making an unprecedented deal to retain ownership of a network series. NBC has noted that "quarterlife" was an opportunity to pickup a scripted series with online following during the uncertain writers strike.

Since "quarterlife" already ran online, and MTV aired the show earlier on Tuesday, the show's target audience may have been tapped out before the network premiere.

Otherwise, Fox won the night once again with a 90-minute "American Idol" (29 million, 11.0/27) that boosted a "Back to You" repeat (12.3 million, 4.5/11) through the roof at 9:30 p.m.

NBC was second with "Loser" holding up best against "Idol." In third place, CBS's "Big Brother" (6.7 million, 2.6/6) rebounded 37% compared to last week after clips circulated online of two houseguests being rushed to the hospital. At 10 p.m., "Jericho" (6.9 million, 2.2/6) also enjoyed a boost, up 10% thanks to decreased competition from NBC.

ABC was fourth with comedies and repeats, but at 10 p.m. the debut of "Primetime: What Would You Do?" won the hour (5.5 million, 2.9/8) and achieved ABC's best numbers in the time period since the November finale of "Dancing With the Stars."

The CW was fifth, averaging a 2.5 million, 1.1/3 for night.

Its a goner.

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- After posting a 17-year low in the 10:00/9:00c hour for the network, it's one and out for NBC's online-turned-broadcast drama "quarterlife."

The series had been set to move to Sundays at 9:00/8:00c on March 2. But after Tuesday's performance - 3.1 million viewers and a 1.3 rating/4 share among adults 18-49 - that's no longer the case.

Sundays will still feature a two-hour "Dateline NBC" at 7:00/6:00c and repeats of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" at 10:00/9:00c. This coming weekend a special "Deal or No Deal" will fill the 9:00/8:00c hour while "Law & Order" repeats will take over the following week.

Repeats of USA's "Monk" and "Psych" then will assume the 8:00/7:00c and 9:00/8:00c slots in April as previously announced.

As for "quarterlife," viewers can still watch episodes on MySpaceTV.com and presumably NBC.com.

I didn't watch the pilot, but "Quarterlife" would've been a hit on the CW.

I would have liked it better had they not put out the "I love her, she loves someone else, I secretly love the guy that loves the girl that loves the guy" storyline in the first episode.

I would have liked to watch more episodes, but I don't care enough to go watch them online. Kind of like Vanished. I never bothered to go watch the rest of that online either.

I thought it was weird all the guys were in love with that one gawky girl.

This show reminded me of Reality Bites. I thought it was odd her "blog" was a video diary. It seemed like a conceit only for TV and unrealistic for most bloggers.
