The Counterfeiters (Ruzowitzky, 2008) — Austrian WW2 movie

HD Trailers | IMDB | RT:
92% | Official SiteThis looks supremely entertaining: it's the story of a counterfeiter who gets put into a concentration camp then is forced to make counterfeits for the Nazis.
I actually heard about it only on Saturday, and was surprised to see it walk away with an Academy Award the next day. I hope this moves beyond its limited LA/NYC release.

This film was very interesting, but I wouldn't call it the best foreign film of last year. For a WW2/Holocaust film, it was just more interesting than touching.
The movie was like a reversal version of Schindler's List as if the perspective of the film is coming from Ben Kingsley's Itzhak Stern.
I felt like I was watching Jason Statham do a Holocaust film. The main actor looks and acts like an underweight, weasily version of Jason Statham, same voice too.

I watched this movie last weekend and I really enjoyed it. I didn't know anything about it, that it won an Oscar and that kind of stuff. My wife chose it in a trip to BlockBuster. So it was a really good surprise for me.
And I agree with toddly, that actor looks like Jason Statham.

Really good movie, I'd say a 4/5. It had some great emotional moments and the whole counterfeiting thing was really interesting. I thought the lead actor was terrific. I felt there were a few moments that didn't quite work but overall it was quite an experience and well worth seeing.
