Movies that end w/self sacrifice?

SPOILERS, uh DUH!

Can you name some movies that end with a main character self-sacrificing themselves for the greater good?

Spoiler:
Armageddon - Bruce Willis setting off the nuke

Spoiler:
Event Horizon - Larry Fishburne blowing up the ships core

Having a spoiler really doesn't have a point unless you know what is being spoiled. For example, I was just spoiled by the post above me.

Ripley in Alien 3
Gorman and Vasquez in Aliens
Father Damien in The Exorcist
Leon in The Professional
Randy Quaid's character in Independence Day
Dyson in T2 (and The Terminator too, I guess)
Doc Ock in Spiderman 2

Yeah, the spoiler is pointless for this thread. The second you see what movie is mentioned, then the ending is basically spoiled.

The only way to avoid it is to not read the thread, or hope that you've seen the movies mentioned already.

And just posting the movie and character without spoiler tags ALSO spoils the movie.

The best way to do it would be the way PopcornTreeCt did it. Post the actor, character name or a quote and then in spoiler say the name of the movie.

Suicide out of depression/despair/hopelessness isn't the same thing as self-sacrifice for the greater good.

Actually, I think the best way to post in this thread is either "Title" then use "SPOILER" tags or just the "Title" with no other info. This way you may know there's a "self sacrifice" in a particular film, but at least you won't know -who- unless you open the spoiler. It gives a choice.

The Crying Game

(unless we're only talking about movies where the character dies.
If that's the case, never mind)
