I have to say yes. The way she handled the Reavers, she could have taken care of bizness with The Operative.

I didn't even buy that she kicked that bars ass (just really, really unconvincing sequence), so I'll say no.

But I'd say yes, she could, she destroyed all those Reavers after all.

She might have the edge, but the Operative would be such a fierce opponent that they would probably beat each other down with no clear winner over the other.

Damn he was a great villain.

The operative does seem like quite the badass, but who, of substance, did he ever really beat? He beatdown Mal but still came out the loser, got fooled by Anari (sp?) and her shock grenade, he killed the geeky communicator (wow, that was tough), the director at the facility where River was being held (again, wow, tough guy), bunch of hooligans that were associated with Mal through his business, and the preacher (he may have been a tough one). Also, he pissed his pants when he saw the Reavers coming in behind Serenity. I don't know - based on the movie, I'd give the edge to River - but I probably could be convinced otherwise.

btw, I initially thought the thread was going to be if River could beat the terminator character in the Sarah Conner Chronicles. That'd be interesting
