AMC Best Picture showcase, anyone going?

I'm going, it's Saturday the 23rd. I have not seen any of the films and I did want to.

Linkage: http://www.amctheatres.com/promos/showcase/

See all 5 best picture nominees for $30
Michael Clayton
There Will Be Blood
Attonement
Juno
No Country for Old Men

plus comes with 1 free large popcorn and unlimited sodas.

Anyone else for a butt numbing day?

The only theaters showing it here in Michigan are in Detroit, so obviously I won't be going, but if I wanted to, I could drive to Grand Rapids, where they are showing all 5 nominees at the Rivertown theater. I've already seen Juno and No Country for Old Men and would love to see them again.

I don't live in America, but this sounds like a great idea ... so long as they give you a good three hours interval between "Blood" or "No Country" and the next film so you can think about things.

I've seen 4 of the 5 nominees, but would gladly rewatch 3 of them. Shame we aren't getting this -- the AMC here can't show There Will Be Blood or No Country for Old Men due to an apparent contract/deal with another chain in town... The theater that got those two shows the best movies in town... but I refuse to pay the $9 to see them in that shit hole (small screens, sticky floors, bad audio that gets drained out by the A/C, poor video quality, audio tends to drop at least one point everytime I've been there (completely blew out during another flick), etc; ).

I was thinking the same thing. Definitely need time to reflect on those films.

This takes place on one day, not two.

Wow, its at the theater right down the street from me. The film buff in me wants to do it. I've seen 4 out of 5 movies playing. Watching 'blood' tomorrow with my mom. But at 30 bucks a person, i'm there (also going to a party after the movies, so to top off the evening with some booze.

The way I look at it... Atonement is the middle movie and would make a nice break time to go get some real food and/or do some shopping at the mall.

I'm going to the one in Charlotte. Can't wait. I only wish they would have placed There Will Be Blood last. It's ending is a lot more appropriate than No Country's.

After 12+ hours of movies, we'll all be saying:
Spoiler:
"I'm finished!"

Why skip Atonement? Skip Juno. Atonement is a very good film. It's OK to admit it. Even if you're a man. Don't be scared that you'll be laughed at... it's only the Internet.

I'm going to it here in Detroit. I've only seen Juno so that might be my time to take a nap.

I thought Juno was just ok too.

Was wanting to throw stuff at the screen in Atonement when . . .

Spoiler:
there was so bee buzzing noise at the beginning and especially the end when we realize that the girl had the exact same hair style for 80 years of her life. That was just stupid.

I'd get some nosh and shopping done during 'No Country...' (overrated!)

HA! That is so true - I've seen all 5 and would gladly see 4 of them all over again - except Atonement.

I would skip No Country For Old Men *ducks

I love it but it's not a real re-watchable film. Juno is funny, I could watch it over and over again.

Thats an awesome idea. Too bad i've seen Michael Clayton, NCFOM & TWBB both twice. I've never been to either of the theatres which this is playing in my area, so i wouldnt want to get stuck in a crappy theatre for 12+ hours.

As good as this sounds on paper, I think it's just too much film-watching in one day, especially for this list of what Hollywood thinks is its top 5 films for 2007. Viewing fatigue has to set in, and it's not fair to the later films in the day.

I don't agree with this at all. Have you not sat through three straight football games? About the same amount of time. Or how about an all day seminar, or a day of classes?

I did not feel any degree of fatigue whatsoever. I was as alert for the last as I was for the first. Neither did it seem anyone around us.

Also, don't critics and buyers go to even longer fests like Sundance?

In Columbus, OH, there are two movie marathons a year, 24-hour sci-fi in the spring, 14 or so hour horror in October. For the 24-hour marathon, typically 11 movies are shown along with dozens of shorts and trailers. Viewing fatigue certainly sets in very early in the morning but you'd be surprised how many films you can sit through in a day with no problem.

You do realize though that, yes, caffeine is a drug.
