"Oddball" Randy Quaid banned for LIFE by Actor's Equity union

He does seem like a piece of work, but who knew him to be this bad? And his wife too. The entire cast went against him. Not some. Not most. ALL.

NEW YORK (Feb. 7) - Randy Quaid has been banned for life by Actors' Equity Assn., the labor union representing American stage actors, and fined more than $81,000 for his alleged actions during the Seattle production of the musical "Lone Star Love," which was scheduled to come to Broadway until producers canceled it.
The story of the stage union's ban and fine was first reported Wednesday in the New York Post, which based its article in part on documents it had obtained. All 26 members of the cast brought charges against Quaid, the Post stated, maintaining that he "physically and verbally abused his fellow performers and that his oddball behavior forced the show to close."
In the country musical based on Shakespeare's "The Merry Wives of Windsor," Quaid played Falstaff, Shakespeare's famed lout of Bacchanalian appetites. In response to the charges, the actor said, "I am guilty of only one thing: giving a performance that elicited a response so deeply felt by the actors and producers with little experience of my creative process that they actually think I am Falstaff."
His lawyer, Mark Bock, said: "The Quaids have been told by one of the actors that this has all been driven by the producers who did not want to give Randy his contractual rights to creative approval ... or financial participation. ... The charges are completely false." According to Block, the actor left Equity before the production opened in Seattle, so his ban was moot. He said the actor participated in the hearing because he wanted due process.
The Post reported that the fine was $81,572, equal to two weeks' pay for the cast.
The matter was decided in Los Angeles by a five-member hearing committee, according to Equity spokeswoman Maria Somma, who would not comment on specifics of the case. "The actions of the hearing committee should remain confidential among all the participants," she said. "If an individual wishes to appeal, it will give the individual a fair environment" in which to do so.
"Lone Star Love" was running at 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle in September and was scheduled to begin previews Dec. 3 at the Belasco Theatre on Broadway. But producers announced Sept. 24 that they were canceling the Broadway run.
Producers said the Broadway transfer was canceled because the show was not ready. A review in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in mid-September gave it a decidedly mixed review, saying that pieces of it were "sharp" but "as a musical comedy, it is dull." This view was consistent with how it was received off-Broadway during the 2004-05 season, when it received mixed reviews with Jay O. Sanders as Falstaff.
Sometime after the cancellation, charges were filed by the cast members against Quaid. On Jan. 25, Quaid's wife, Evi, appeared at Equity's offices in Los Angeles and demanded documents for the hearing. There was a physical altercation, which resulted in four Equity staffers getting temporary restraining orders against Evi Quaid, and Evi Quaid obtaining a restraining order against Equity, according to documents filed by the parties in California Superior Court.

I hope this doesn't mean were getting Christmas Vacation 3: Revenge of Cousin Eddie. Actually, now that I think about it, it would make a cool Christmas slasher flick with Eddie going insane and murdering his inbred clan-folk.

Randy Quaid arrested for squatting in old home
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actor Randy Quaid and his wife were arrested after being found apparently squatting at a California home they owned years ago.In the couple’s second brush with the law in the past year, the Quaids were stopped by police in the upscale community of Montecito -- home to celebrities like Oprah Winfrey -- on Saturday, police said.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department said that Quaid and his wife Evi insisted they owned the house, but a representative for the home owner produced documents proving the house now belonged to his client.
Randy Quaid, who starred in 2005 film “Brokeback Mountain” and is the brother of actor Dennis Quaid, was booked on suspicion of burglary and entering a building without consent. His wife, Evi, was booked on those charges as well as resisting arrest.
Earlier this year the couple were arrested on charges of failing to pay their bill at a California hotel. Evi Quaid was forced to pay $10,500 in restitution in that case and she pleaded no contest to defrauding an innkeeper.
An attorney who represented the Quaids in that case could not be reached for comment about their latest arrest.

I am profoundly sad to read these stories about Randy Quaid. The man clearly needs help and is not getting it, but I suspect that his brother has tried to get him some care but it is probably a you can take a horse to water but not force the horse to drink situation.
I know, I know, picking Independence day to highlight one of Randy Quaid's fun character acting performances is bound to make some go dude, couldn't you pick a better film from his filmography when discussing Randy Quaid, but I did recently watch Independence Day again (I kind-of do watch it every 4th of July, still a fun check your brain at the door film) and Randy Quaid's oddball father performance still makes me chuckle.

Man... Randy Quaid worked on such classics as The Last Picture Show, The Last Detail, What's Up Doc,. Midnight Express, Paper Moon, The Long Riders (screw you hippie, that's a classic!)... but they'll always dredge up Independence Day. Every time.
He's also a slobbering, hyperventilating MAGA loon, which tells you all you need to know about that kind of political acolyte.

Also, in addition to those classics, and outside of the Vacation movies, Randy Quaid co-starred in one of the funniest movies ever in Quick Change!
