Just got a PS3: Need some opinions

Hey guys,

Got the PS3 yesterday and I'm pretty amazed by the graphics and the console as a whole. (I've only owned a Wii up until now). I just wanted to ask some questions and get some opinions on a few things:

- When playing online, are you guys playing wirelessly or wired? A few of my friends said it's impossible to play online games wirelessly as there will be too much lag. I was playing Call of Duty 4 today, wirelessly, and didn't seem to have any lag.

- I want to get another wireless controller. Witch one would you guys recommend (first party or third party)? I would prefer rumble if possible.

- This may be a dumb question but, I got the 40gb with only 2 usb ports. Would it be possible to use a USB hub to add more ports?

- Are there any settings I should change that would increase picture quality for games or Blu-ray movies?

- Where's the best place to get friends to add? I would love to play some Call of Duty 4 against you guys (even though I suck). This is the first time I'm playing a first person shooter so I'm still trying to get used to the controls.

Thanks guys!! So far I'm LOVING the PS3!!

Typically anyone who says that wireless is "laggier" than wired over the internet is a moron. The wireless portion of your network is still faster than your broadband connection. I haven't heard of any specific issues with the PS3 breaking that mold. I suggest you find smarter friends

- Wireless is fine. I have what I'd consider "iffy" wireless support and can play online with no problem and minimal lag. People who say otherwise just don't like Wireless for whatever reason, lag isn't it.

- You can import the Dual Shock 3, or purchase them off eBay for about $60 shipped ($10 more than a standard SIXAXIS), they're due in US Stores sometime "early 08" but I'll believe it when I see it. I don't like the design of the 3rd party controls (I'm not a Dual Shock/SIXAXIS fan to begin with but they're better than the 3rd party) so I'd say stick with 1st party.

- Not sure about the hub, but Rock Band uses one, so presumably it'd work just fine.

- No clue, I still have no friends (I've had my PS3 a week, everyone I know is a 360 person (I am as well))

Already covered, but unless there is something wrong with your router this is total untrue. Your internet bandwith is going to be less than the speed of your router in most cases.

I would wait for the Dual Shock 3 to get released early this year. It will have rumble.

Absolutely.

This depends on your TV of course, but most recommend putting RGB on full and superwhite on from what I have read.

You can definitely add DVD Talkers. Look through the official PS3 thread. There are a lot of PS3 usernames there and you can send requests to get people added to your friends list.

Also, I see that Sony (I think it's Sony) makes a bluetooth headset to use with the PS3. Can you use ANY bluetooth headset or does it have to be this one?

Haha, yeah to note Warhawk comes with a Jabra earpiece instead of a Sony one.

Also to note, I picked up Warhawk yesterday for $49 (@ Target B&M), not the best price in the world but it's for the game + decent bluetooth headset for people that are looking. YMMV.

Here's a great thread on Bluetooth headsets for the PS3.

http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...cending&page=1

The short answer is, any bluetooth headset should work, but some headsets work better than others.

Your best option is to get the Warhawk bundle which comes with the Jabra BT125 headset. Most people seem to agree that this is the best headset to work with the PS3. And the game's pretty good too. It retails for $60. You can probably find a reasonable deal if you're patient (I got a new bundle for $34 on eBay).

Figures, it's the first game I didn't buy off eBay for the system, haha, oh well.

Well I actually already have a Motorola one, so I'll give that a try.

I'll be your friend...I rarely play the PS3, but I am impressed with the machine as a whole. I think all of your questions have been answered. I would wait for the Dual Shock 3 to come stateside also. (They have White ones in Japan currently though).
