Gears of War (XP) - I don't get it
I've heard a lot of good things about GOW so I purchased it when it became available for the PC. After playing it for awhile ... I don't get it. The controls seem sluggish, the game is linear, not exciting, and it cartoonish in it's cut scene animation & dialog. I uninstalled it shortly after I met the guy from Alpha.
Is this a problem with the PC version, or just a disconnect between FPS on the PC vs. a console?

2. 99.9% of shooters on a consoles are linear
3. YMMV on story, dialog, excitement, and art direction
4. Gears of War is not a FPS, it is a third person shooter.

It was designed to be played with a controller and not a keyboard/mouse setup. The 360 controllers will work with a PC if you have the RF adapter. It will probably play a lot better that way.

I know a lot of people LOVE this game. I bought it (for 360) and played through it. Though it had it's cool moments, it wasn't the earth shattering experience many would lead you to believe. Plus, IMO, it's a bit on the short side (and yes I know you can play multi-player, but that in no way enhances or makes better or longer, the single player experience).
It is what it is, a great looking (on 360), above average shooter that (because of it's slower pace and cover system) isn't for everyone. I enjoyed it for the most part, but it's short length really bugged me

I don't know... even i'm no big fan of FPS (Gears is a bit of FPS, not totally, but still a bit of), i love the game
It's not a bad game, definitely worth the $40 price for the PC version (i don't know about the PC controller scheme though, but since you can play it using the X360 controller, give it a try!).

Of course, i find things like pressing a button (interaction) and then walk through the door within few seconds before it closes, totally stupid... It's not God of War you know... that's why i find the Berserker level a bit weird (ammo can't hurt the bitch). I know it's not hard, but it's a bit off track with the "tone" of the game.

I must be the only person in the world left that prefers more linear shooters (Gears, Halo, Half-Life 2) to the alternative (STALKER, uggggh). Though Gears was exceptionally linear.

It's pretty good as far as FPS's go IMO, but it wasn't the end all be all for me. I beat it and sold it - whereas I still have R6: Vegas and fire it up from time to time.

I wouldn't worry so much if you don't like it. That's the nature of games... some you'll like, and others you'll hate, no matter what anyone else says
I really dug it though.

Don't get me wrong, I like linear also, and the 'tactical FPS' like Full Spectrum, the old R6 (planning & teams), and the new R6 (cover) are probably my favorite games.
I can see how it was made for a controller, and would be better that way. I'm willing to chalk it up to a difference in PC vs console, with maybe some porting issues and personal taste (graphics/story) turning me off.
