I watched I Am Legend last night and once it started I was immediately distracted by the multitude of production company's logos that were presented in succession. There must have been four or five of them, and they weren't just still images that could fade in and out quickly, but they were animated graphics that each took way longer than it should have.
Does anyone else get annoyed by this? I appreciated Michael Mann's last two movies for their brief approach. Collateral only had the Dreamworks logo and Miami Vice the Universal logo - and neither one even had the accompanying audio.

Studios are understanding the benefits of splitting up the cost of a production among multiple partners. I remember thinking that Terminator 3 had a hilariously long amount of logos. As movies get more expensive, don't expect the trend to change.

It really sucks when they are in trailers. I hate it when a trailer starts with a quick shot of something then goes to the company logo, it's like you're supposed to say "Oh snap Warner is making this I know it's gonna rock!" I just can't stand how proud they are of their fucking animated logos.

Eh, I don't mind. I know whenever I see the Fox fanfare I get a little bit of goosebumps and smile inside.

I like them as I can tell what is coming up, but that's mainly cause I'm a nerd.

I don't like the ones that are so elaborate you think the movie is actually starting. I remember one for Mandalay in the later 90's where I thought, "a tiger is in this?"

Heh, things must be going pretty good in your life if this is something that you can get annoyed over. No, I can't say I'm bothered by them, sometimes I like to see them sometimes, like a Bruckheimer film when I didn't know his production company was involved. At least I know it will have some action (and spinning camera work!)

I'm sorry to hear that so many of you have terminal diseases, where 30-odd seconds of logos truly could mean... the end of it all.

I actually really enjoy them. Some are very creatively done.

I think I wouldn't mind as much if 1) the film's audio didn't begin until after all of the logos had appeared and 2) the companies' names didn't also appear in the opening credits.

It's pretty stupid, for example, in Sweeney Tood. The soundtrack is blaring a Lon Chaney-style pipe organ of doom... while the happy little boy fishes over the crescent moon... I guess it's supposed to be ironic, but it just seems like a non-sequiter to me...

I agree with this. Funny thing is i don't even remember the studio or production company names after the fact.

I like the Dreamworks ones too. The one in front of Bee Movie was funny.

I knew what movie this thread was referencing before I even opened it. They didn't bother me, but I did think to myself during the opening of I Am Legend that there were a lot of production studios involved. It can seem excessive, but I come to expect it these days.

There was another thread about the best use of them (most recently, the Fox Searchlight logo-to-intro for Sunshinie where the camera continues to pan and seamlessly integrated into the movie). They don't bother me, I like it when they are creative with them (ie: Dreamworks for "The Ring", the aforementioned Sunshine, etc; )

I just wish they did creative things with the logos more often. It's always cool when the company is willing to adapt their logo to personalize the film.

I don't mind studio logos before the movie, but I can see how seeing more than 2 of them appear on after another can get annoying. I also agree that they wouldn't be half as annoying if they were 'personalized' to the aesthetics of the film (the Warner Bros. logo in 300, etc).

Actually, I find excessive opening credit text to be more annoying. You know, "[company_name] presents ... a [another_company_name] production ... in association with [yet_another_company_name] ..."

So some of your are ticked about 30 seconds of logos but not ticked by the 30 minutes of commericials that usually proceed them?

The logos dont bother me. But all those fucking words and names they have before the movie bother me. I know what fucking movie I went to see, I dont need to waste time seeing the title of the movie.
