What Happened to John Hughes?

He was a big director during the 1980s then after Curly Sue in 1991 he disappered from the directing world, never to direct again. He has been writing and producing. And he hasn't really had a decent movie since Home Alone 2, 15 years ago.

Does anyone know why he stopped directing?

Ewoks were cute. Still are. Honestly, what is offensive about those little guys?

He was crushed under the weight of his own ego.

After Baby's Day Out, how could he continue? Have crooks chasing sperm?

Seems like he retired from directing, or he quit while he was ahead.

He's still written (or Ghost Written) some movies in the last 10 years, Maid in Manhatten, Just Visiting, and I think another.

His son directed a movie a couple years ago I think, I seem to recall it not being very good

He's hanging out with Rick Moranis in a cave somewhere.

He cowrote the upcoming movie Drillbit Taylor with Seth Rogen, starring Owen Wilson and produced by Judd Apatow. Maybe he's in for a comeback?

"Drillbit" is based on a story idea from Hughes that Rogen and his writing partner are adapating, I'm not sure how closely Hughes is actually involved with the project. He's not even taking credit under his real name, he's using his "Edmond Dantes" alias (the same name he used for "Beethoven's 3rd" and "Maid in Manhattan").
