Best resurrection of a movie franchise?

So we've had a lot of movie franchises become resuscitated as of late. Some to surprising and rousing success. Ones that I really enjoyed were "Live Free or Die Hard", "Casino Royale" (if you can call it a resurgence) and "Rocky Balboa". We all scoffed, but they have been turning out pretty decently imo.

Some notables include: "Halloween", "AvP", "Terminator 3", etc...

So what do you think has been the best "phoenix rising" franchise to come out? of all time prehaps...

Casino Royale and Batman Begins. The best entry's in both of the Franchise's histories.

I think it has to be Batman Begins. Some of the other suggestions (Die Hard, Terminator, Indiana Jones) were merely abandoned rather than left for dead.

Batman Begins is the start of a new franchise, not part of the previous one.

Until we see how Indy 4 turns out, the hands-down winner has to be Batman Begins...

Even though it only had to "Ressurect" a franchise with one bad movie the leap in quality from Star Trek: The Motion Picture to Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan should qualify it.

I guess Kitano won't continue with a new franchise for Zatoichi cuz that's where my vote might've went.

I also say Batman Begins. The characterizations are dead on!

Batman Begins.

Casino Royale didn't resurrect the franchise since Die Another Day was a financial success, but it did reinvigorate and reinvent Bond.

Aside from the obvious. I'm tossing my hat in for Superman Returns. The movie was only decent but compared to the unbearable sequels it was certainly a nice change.

Besides Batman Begins, I thought King Kong was great.

I have to agree with you. Before Singer came along, the movie was becoming a monstrous joke with Nic Cage signing up for the role, an aborted script involving Superman dying then implanting himself into Lois to be reborn, changes with Superman not flying at all, wearing a black suit, fighting a civil war on Krypton, battling a polar bear and a giant robot spider, having McG direct ('Nuff said!) and all sorts of ideas to reboot the character which looked like a huge conceptual disaster.

Let's not also forget the last two terrible sequels, which although made long before SUPERMAN RETURNS, are still on people's mind thanks to endless reruns on cable TV. (I swear to God, SUPERMAN IV must have been broadcasted on WGN every other month.)
