Will Ferrell stars in Semi-Pro, an outrageous comedy set in 1976 against the backdrop of the maverick ABA - a fast-paced, wild and crazy basketball league that rivaled the NBA and made a name for itself with innovations like the three-point shot and slam dunk contest. Ferrell plays Jackie Moon, a one-hit wonder who used the profits from the success of his chart-topping song "Love Me Sexy" to achieve his dream of owning a basketball team. But Moon's franchise, the Flint Michigan Tropics, is the worst team in the league and in danger of folding when the ABA announces its plans to merge with the NBA. If they want to survive, Jackie and the Tropics must now do the seemingly impossible - win.
Semi-Pro co-stars Woody Harrelson (Anger Management, White Men Can't Jump), Andre Benjamin (Four Brothers, music group Outkast), Maura Tierney, Will Arnett (Blades of Glory, "Arrested Development"), Andy Richter, Rob Corddry, DeRay Davis, Josh Braaten, Jay Phillips, and Jackie Earle Haley. The film is written by Scot Armstrong (Old School), directed by Kent Alterman, produced by Jimmy Miller, and will be released on February 29, 2008.

Call 1-800-TROPICS, it's pretty funny.

I have to admit I've liked his sports themed movies thus far.

I want to know what ever happened to the New Jersey Turnpikes... which is the same movie with Kelsey Grammer and Orlando Jones. I guess since it featured Jayson Williams, it won't ever make the light of day. Funniest damn_movie about the ABA.

^^^ sounds like me with Anchorman. Hated it the first time I saw it, but then watched in on HBO and loved it.

Whatever, to each his own. Blades was plenty entertaining and I look forward to Semi-Pro.

I assumed from that red band trailer that we were getting an R rated comedy. Less than 2 weeks from release and ads still have this as "Not Yet Rated". Me thinks they are trying to re-tool for a PG-13.

So has anyone heard what the rating is? i am hoping for an R but I assume there will be an UR DVD regardless, do you think that Bewey Cox bombing with an R might be a reason for editing this to PG-13?
