I'm amazed the Saw movies continue to have such a pull, especially this one which seemed to have little advertising and nil hype --- at least in my area.

I agree, I forgot it even existed until I noticed it listed as opening on Rotten Tomatoes. I know I never saw a mention of it on Television, and I watch way too much of it.

Some people think the franchise has already been milked; bullsh*t, it’s still going strong in terms of “Quality” after 3 movies and even though I’ll have to wait until Saw IV gets released on DVD, I don’t think I’ll be disappointed.

Well Saw will drop huge next weekend, then everyone will go see American Gangster.

Amazing to see that amid all these underperforming films from the major studios the only hits (besides the Game Plan) are SAW IV and the Tyler Perry Movie. Both from LIONSGATE , and both the 4th in thier respective series. The Game plan is also a film with a tired formula as well. Proving once again people go to what is familiar to them.

It's very interesting to see that this is the "Friday the 13th" or "Nightmare on Elm Street" series for the 2000's (series that has a new installment each year, even once it gets up to number 4, 5, 6, etc...). I think that's kind of cool. There really wasn't one in the 90's, was there?

I'm impressed that 30 Days of Night only fell 51% in its second week, facing Saw. I was expecting closer to 60%

To be honest, I love the Saw movies simply for that reason. I really admire that they crank these out every year. They have just enough thrills and fake enough intelligence to be entertaining. I enjoy the whole pop culture phenomenon more than the films themselves. I hope they keep going after 6.

The numbers in that post are just the Sunday numbers, not the weekend numbers. I'm not sure what it refers to when it says -51%. Maybe last Sunday?

Saw IV ads were all over the Myspace homepage for the last couple of weeks. I might catch Saw III on cable, but I really didn't like Saw II.

With the exception of the first Saw, all the other flicks opened at about the $32 million mark. Does anybody know the budget on the fourth one?

Nope, that only had 3 films. And there was over a 2 year gap between part 2 and 3.

I'll admit I expected Saw to be tops, but not with over $30mil. I didn't like this one nearly as much as the third, which was the logical conclusion to the series. Either way it is fun to have a new one to look forward to each year.

$10 million, which is actually $2 million less than the third outing.

I have a feeling with the next two outings, they may be cheaper due to almost an entirely new crew in charge.
