Quality of DVDs made?

Hey all

Just wanting to know what other people think of the subject of DVD quality today in general. Is it just me or are there more and more playback issues with DVDs made today? Playback issues on what works fine on one player, has issues on another.

You have DVDs that look pristine, and yet have playback issues, and yet dvds that can have what looks like marks at time of manufacture, and yet they perfectly fine.

It just doesnt make sense. In the past 12 months, the amount of DVD issues I get because of not playing on one player and ok on another is just a joke.

The only playback issues I've had were a couple defective discs (that had recalls). Maybe the Toshiba player I have isn't as sensitive to pressing issues as others are. I think I've had the thing for 4 years and it still plays great.

I wonder if it's more of a player problem than a disc problem. My two players are a second-generation Sony and a new Oppo and I've never had a problem with either of them. But a lot of people are buying $40 no-name players that just can't be very well made.

I think in the 5 or 6 years I’ve been buying DVDs; I’ve only had a playback issue with 2 different discs. My RCA DVD/VCR combo worked great; but the VCR stopped working so I bought a Sanyo VCR/DVD Recorder and a Sony HT 1-Disc system and I’ve had no problems whatsoever. Even the occasional disc that’s been scratched during the manufacturing process has worked fine.

I own a couple of cheapo DVD players and they act up all the time. My 2 decent players, however, rarely have problems... KNOCK ON WOOD!

We need a "knock on wood" smiley, dont'cha think?
