This Year's Worst Trailer: Love in the Time of Cholera (Updated w/ Something Worse!!)

So much for adapting highly-praised literature.

Rule of thumb for making a prestige picture for Oscar season: Don't gloat about how your movie deserves an Oscar because you'll get a trailer as shitty as this is.

Seriously, if you replaced everyone with marionettes, added an amateur-hour temp score, and had Trey Parker narrate it, it could perfectly be used in a South Park episode. Yikes.

SHAMEFUL UPDATE:
If you thought Date Movie and Epic Movie were comedy classics, then Meet the Spartans, the new movie from those films' unholy creators, will make those look like Spice World and RoboCop 3.

Having recently seen part of Date Movie on cable, I can't even fathom how awful this will be. The problem isn't just that these movies are unfunny and godawful, it's that the execution of the jokes is akin to playing Duck Hunt with the Zapper unplugged from the NES. And when you get to a scene involving a certain has-been pop star who shaved her head, you'll know that this is gonna be The Godfather Part III to Part I (Date) and Part II (Epic). Watch at your own risk.

Funny, my award for worst trailer goes to "Blonde Ambtion."

And the award for "Trailer that showed me the entire movie:" Vantage Point

We make it a point to see every Best Picture nominated film before the Oscars.

I will break that tradition if this gets nominated. Looks terrible.

That was hilarious.

Mike Newell isn't a bad director, odd. Tho you'd figure they'd just hire the same team behind The Painted Vail for it.

I remember this book as the driving plot device of the movie Serendipity.

It's Ted's favorite book as well, but Robin finds it snooze worthy.

YAH.

I have nothing to add.

I saw the trailer before 'Michael Clayton' last weekend and the trailer was very unmemorable.

I don't know that Greg Kinnear movie about couples or something had a really really bad trailer. When the trailer feels like 10 minutes, you have problems.

I heard that The Asylum, the company that gave us "Transmorphers" and "Snakes on a Train" is coming out with their own version called "Love in the Time of Diarrhea".

bump

LitToC now has a contender for worst trailer of the year: the teaser for Meet the Spartans, the unanticipated new film from the two guys who wrote Scary Movie that made Date Movie and Epic Movie. See the OP for the horror. And yes, it's a 300 parody, and no they did not resist throwing a Britney Spears joke into it.

That Meet the Spartans trailer was a joke right? Like a "spoof" spoof trailer?

No. Sadly no.

It's the next award winning comedy from those fucking douchebags who gave us Epic Movie and Date Movie.

Did they use the voiceover guy for Disney Direct-To-Video cartoons for that Cholera trailer? Awful. Especially Leguizamo blowing out the candle. I did however laugh out loud at the end of the trailer when the dramatic music was fading out and it said "With original music by Shakira"

You gotta admit as awful as that Meet the Spartans trailer was, they sure did get a guy who closely resembles Gerard Butler.
