I hope they include the deleted scene that wasn't in the last dvd where Travolta dances to DISCO DUCK that appears when the movie is on commercial t.v.

I guess we're stuck with that cover (and features) for the HD versions too.

Just as I feared, it sounds like they've dropped the great VH-1 Behind the Music special on the previous version. There were also a few deleted scenes, so this seems like a major extras overhaul. Hang on to the current disc for all the extras.

Why would they even bother with this at this late date if its not Hi Def? Pesonally I think any rerelease at this late date in this format is a waste of time. If its already anamorphic and has a decent release lets move on to the next format people........

same here...and yes, that is ugly cover art to say the least. I suppose a redeeming feature of this upcoming release is that it will be in a keepcase versus the previous release (25th Anniversary Edition).

The 25th Anniversary came in both the glitter (cardboard) box and a keep case ( at certain stores) like Sams.

^ The 30th Anniversay isn't a keepcase... It's a drawer case with a translucent(sp?) cover with Travolta. The disc behind it has the disco art on it.

I was thinking the same thing, did they make videos for it and if so that would have sold it for me, kinda like the 20th anniversary Dirty Dancing dvd with the 3 videos, man that would of been nice.

STAYIN' ALIVE and HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE and also DISCO INFERNO were the only songs to have music videos.
But they were nothing special.

It WAS supposed to be coming out on high def though....it was announced back in June and scheduled for release on September 18...it appears to have been pushed back though (as with what happened to Face/Off)....

Since they made a new HD master for the HD-DVD release, I'm sure they saw a perfect opportunity for the 'ol double dip on standard def DVD....the site DVDMG has a review up that says the picture quality is much improved from the original release too...that might make a big difference to some people, I mean, just because an original release was anamorphic doesn't mean there's not plenty of room for improvement sometimes...

I just read the review and there are no deleted scenes!
They took out the 3 from the old dvd and didn't include the scene where Travolta dances to DISCO DUCK that was missing from the last dvd.
Looks like I'm keeping my old one.

Don't know about the audio, but Paramount has definitely cleaned up the video transfer... Here are a couple screen comparisons I've made:

You can see that the new transfer is a lot warmer and (I don't know the technical term) the framing on the old one squished the picture vertically a little (it's really noticeable if you were to go from the new to old quickly).

Looking at the new ones, I'm not wild about the skin tones, though. Seems too red (especially that first one).

Yeah, Travolta is only a touch lighter than an Oompa Lumpa in the 2007 top screenshot...I'll hold off for my double-dip on the title until/if ever the HD-DVD comes out
