Basket Case 2 was the last VHS I ever bought, about 1-2 years ago when there was no release forthcoming. I needed to keep torturing my friends.

I can't even remember... I don't think I've purchased a VHS tape since I went over to DVD back in (I think) 1999. I've only been selling most of them off over the years.

I think the last VHS tape I bought was a double-tape release of Dawn of the Dead: Director's Cut. I owned the EP version, but saw the LP version for around three dollars at Blockbuster.

The Usual suspects. Only because it was the the Limited edition VHS gift set that included a script, zippo lighter and whatnot. I tossed the tapes, stuck a dvd in it's place and displayed it on my shelf. I got myself a sweet conversation piece now.

Anthrax - "NFV" and "Persistance of Videos"
Iron Maiden - "Maiden England"

My excuse? They're not on DVD!

Hamlet (1996)

I think I bought it three years ago for 2 or 3 dollars. I was not sure when WB would get around to releasing it and at least it was letterboxed.

The last VHS I bought was Threads (a great British TV-movie not on DVD in the U.S.) about two years ago. Before that, it was Lost Highway (there's a 1.33:1 pan-and-scan Canadian R1 DVD, but the 2.35:1 widescreen VHS is pretty readily available on Amazon Marketplace, eBay, etc.). Of course, I no longer own a VCR...

About two years ago I bought "The Magnificent Ambersons" from my local video rental place, which was clearing out most of its VHS stock.

I bought it because it was $1 and it wasn't (and still isn't) available on DVD.

My last VHS was also Star Wars: Episode I. It was the collector's edition with the 35mm film strip and excerpted version of "The Art of Star Wars".

VHS was the only release available unless you wanted to spend a ridiculous amount importing the laserdisc.

AC/DC's Let There Be Rock, and a few other 70s & 80s music video tapes, to transfer to DVD (they're not out on DVD).

Holy Matrimony (1943) last December. Fox has never released it on VHS, CED, Beta, laserdisc, CD-i, DVD, etc.

Thankfully, the bootleg is studio-quality (it's something I'd expect right from Fox) and I was able to make a fully progressive 24p DVD-R from it (no ghosting). It's a pity it's not on DVD since it's a hilarious movie.

Before that, I think I picked up a rare VHS of some cartoons back in 2001.

Cops - Too Hot For TV

It was the 'Deluxe Edition' with 20 minutes of added nasty whores, etc added on after the credits. It was scary. I couldn't pass it up for $1. Plus I sold it on Ebay for a profit.

Probably my last VHS purchases (At Suncoast) was blind-buying 2 Anchor Bay spaghetti westerns, Keoma and Companeros. Loved the latter, the other is still slowly growing on me (Already pre-ordered Blue Underground's release for next month)

There's this flea market-type store in town that still sells used VHS movies that haven't made it to DVD yet (Or went OOP) Black Belt Jones and MST3K The Movie were among my last purchases there.

I think it was Ken Russell's "Savage Messiah" a few years ago, couldn't find it in any other format.

I'm not quite sure, it might have been Last House on the Left way before a DVD release was ever announced, and this was at Best Buy so that shows how long it's been.

Well, actually if you count used I did buy Twilight Zone: The Movie last year or so because I didn't think it would ever see the light of day on DVD.

I'm not sure, maybe Yellow Submarine or Once Upon a Time in the West.

I've thought about buying Decline of Western Civilization since my copy is pretty faded, and maybe by me buying it it will finally come out.

Picked up Spalding Gray: Terrors of Pleasure earlier this year; my excuse being that it is still not on DVD...

"Now, Mr. Gray, don't you think life is too short to be worried about catching rabies... from a well?"

[slaps himself]
