Tomorrow at 4:15pm EST, one of my favorite movies will air on Turner Classic Movie. I like to brag about this movie as often as I can because it's by far the most obscure favorite movie I have and because it has never been released on DVD in R1 before (not until next month's Criterion comes out, at least).
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043338/
It's a Billy Wilder forgotten classic starring Kirk Douglas that I'd probably call my favorite film-noir (and some have debated whether or not it should be lumped in the "noir" style/genre, but that's neither here nor there). In fact, one of the movie's strongest attributes is its treatment of some of the genre's icons (namely, the weak-willed protagonist being duped by the femme fatale).
In any case, the movie has a very compelling story full of some powerful moral questions. Powerful story dealing with doing what is right (morality) versus doing what is profitable (greed). Also a very pointed indictment of the media.
Anyway, I strongly recommend this movie for recording/viewing.

DVD Talk Hero
Good news

Since I've never seen it I'll definitely watch it tomorrow. I was going to blind buy the DVD but I guess I can get a peek first.

Yeah, you're right about that criterion release. I edited my first post to reflect some of the info posted on that site (which I agree with, for example the movie being "scathing").
I mean, I usually don't jump at criterions (too much to pay for a movie, imo) but this one was like made for me.

anybody watch this movie today when it was on? thoughts?
i kept an eye on it as i recorded it and i swear i think it has the best plot of any movie i've ever seen.
i recorded it on VHS, if i want to transfer it from VHS to DVD then will i need to hook 2 units up to the same TV? can a combo DVD/VHS-player both play and record at the same time? how do you think i should go about transferring it?
