Another ten titles for me this week - the wallet screamth.


• Best Of TV Detectives (150 Episodes) - One of those ginomous public domain collections that seem to turn up everywhere now. Better than buying individual discs and the quality is not much worse than average.



• Cecil B Demille Classics Collection - A BIG collection of DeMille's silent work including his first version of The Squaw Man (one of the first American feature films) and his ambitious Joan the Woman. Looking forward to this a lot.



• Hellboy: Blood And Iron - Liked the live action film and the first animated effort. Willing to give this a go.



• The Hustler - Double dip, but worh it for the extras I hope. Jackie Gleason rules in this.



• The Jeeves Collection (Thank You, Jeeves! / Step Lively, Jeeves) - Falls into the category of stuff I never thought would be released on DVD. Now, here it is, and with a substantial extras package. Fox have overtaken Warner as my faovurite studio this year for their presentations on older films. Cannot wait for this - will be frisbeed into the player the second I get home with it.



• John Wayne: Screen Legend Collection (Reap The Wild Wind / Rooster Cogburn / The Hellfighters / The War Wagon / The Spoilers) - Filling some gaps in my collection with this lot. I have good memories of The War Wagon and The Spoilers, so this may be interesting.



• the Original Nancy Drew Movie Mystery Collection (Detective / Reporter / Troubleshooter / Hidden Staircase) - Another in the "Never Thought I would see it on DVD" list. Of course, Warner are just using it as a tie in for some new Nancy Drew effort, but good to see anyway, especially saving Nancy Drew - Reporter from public domain hell. Interesting to compare to the Fox Jeeves collection though. Fox seem to have done a full restoration and commissioned new documentary material, Warner have just bunged a few unrestored trailers on. Hmmm.



• They Came From The Grave! (5-Pack: My Dead Girlfriend, Carnage for the Destroyer, Dead & Rotting, Mulva: Zombie Ass Kicker!, Filthy McNasty) - Slight guilty pleasure. Always wanted to own a film called Zombie Ass Kicker!



• The Three Musketeers (1939) - Despite the dubious pleasure that is the Ritz Brothers, I think this is the second best version of the Dumas classic. The 1948 Gene Kelly version is colourful but vapid, the 1993 effort with Charloe Sheen et al is not worth a cup of cold urine. Only Richard Lester's double header from the mid seventies tops this version and I hope Fox have pulled out some extras to support it. Really looking forward to seeing this again.


• The Verdict - Double dip, again for the extras.
