Who to call for Good, Bad and Ugly problems?

I just bought The Good, The Bad and The Ugly from FYE. It was actually an exchange for another unopened DVD. Unfortunately this was the original MGM 2-discer and not a new Fox one (not that I know what it looks like, if it's identical, or what). The reason this was unfortunate was because this DVD has clearly been sitting in this FYE for some three and a half years gathering dust, because when I flipped it over to take off the paper glued to the back, instead of popping off the way it's supposed to, the glue clung so hard it ripped big holes in the back.

FYE doesn't have any copies, nor does the other one nearby. I could drive all the way out to another mall but I'd have to wait a few weeks to get paid because I'm strapped for cash and I'd rather not if I can just call someone and have them mail me a replacement. I also don't think the FYE I bought it at would accept a refund so I could buy it elsewhere, because it was an exchange and I didn't have the reciept.

So who do I call? I remember on some other title a user complaining about MGM numbers redirecting to Sony and Sony numbers redirecting to MGM numbers, and of course it will probably be ultimately up to Fox. Any help that anyone can give me would be great.

Sorry that I can't help, but what do you mean by big holes in the back? I remember when I bought mine, I took of the paper flyer on the back as well and it ripped a layer of the packaging as well. A bit annoying, but I've lived with it. Is yours much worse?

Also, is the new Fox/MGM release in the same packaging? For some reason I thought it'd be in a keepcase. Either way, I'm sure the new release would at least have a Fox logo or copyright somewhere on the back.

Yeah, it ripped holes in the artwork on the back cover, same as you. And I haven't seen the Fox version (I thought I said that in my above post but it probably wasn't clear), but I am assuming either, yeah, like you said, it will be a keep case in a slipsleeve like the other ones, or it would be the existing box, just with a different flyer mentioning Fox glued to the back.

I had the same problem with my copy. It kind of pissed me off at the time, but it's no big deal really. I doubt you're going to have much luck getting a new one.

I was just posing the question about the new release in general (not necessarily to you). Don't know how much damage the glue did to your box, but mine wasn't too bad. Somewhat annoying but neither image of Lee Van Cleef nor Eli Wallach got torn. Just some of the white blank space between the two.

To answer your question, droidguy, the Fox edition comes in a two disc keepcase housed in a thick 'horizontal slide' outer slipcase, with the front and back cover art being almost identical to Mgm's, but with a few subtle differences--mainly on the back, where the film synopsis is slightly longer on the Fox. What I mean by the slipcase is it's the kind with an opening on the side where the keepcase slides horizontally into it, exposing the keepcase spine on that side. Also, to my knowledge, the fox issue doesn't include the theatrical mini posters that the mgm does. Otherwise identical.
I also recently picked up the mgm a few days ago. The local Barnes & Noble had one copy of each (mgm/fox) and I actually opted for the mgm because of the posters. I'm the type who tends to usually go for the most complete package. I suspect my mgm was also sitting on the shelf for a couple years, as I've seen it every time I've been in there in that time. But, it's still unopened--and I'm having some second thoughts now due to what you mentioned, but I'll probably end up just holding on to the mgm.
