Whatever happened with Dual DVD, HD-DVD Discs?

From 2004: "The new discs would help Hollywood studios and other content providers in their anticipated transition to the new HD-DVD format. HD-DVD is being developed to replace DVD for high-definition content."

Seemed like a good idea.

I think they just decided that flippers (Combo) discs were the easier route, plus then you can have HD-30 on one side, DVD-9 on the other...and we all know how much HD DVD fans LOVE combo discs.

There are already some TWIN format discs available from Japan. Bandai is also releasing anime on TWIN discs in the U.S. which starts w/Freedom Vol. 1.

I personally have nothing against the combo discs except for their higher pricing.
