Best DVD Release of "One Eyed Jacks"?
i'm sure many of you know there are like 10-12 DVD releases of this film by different companies...
directed by and starring Marlon Brando... also starring his old 'Streetcar Named Desire" and "On The Waterfront" buddy Karl Malden... Ben Johnson... et al...
what is the best release?... i see different ones mentioned as 'best' on amazon and etc...
thought i would get better info here...

I have one from, I believe, Front Row. It came in a cardboard sleeve for $1.00, and despite saying full-frame, it was non-anamorphic widescreen; a pleasent suprise. Far above $1.00 quality.

According to a 2006 thread over at HTF, the Front Row is the best version, followed by the Brentwood release.

I managed to pick up an inexpensive used copy of the original OOP Front Row release (keep case version) on eBay and I will make do with it until an official Paramount/Criterion restored/anamorphic release materializes...if ever.

I got the Front Row at an "All for a Dollar" store - the quality is surprisingly decent, but I also transferred my laserdisc copy to dvd-r (the Front Row might actually be a laser dub). This is one of my favorite westerns, and is seriously underrated.

i think i'll get the front row for now...
this is one of the better westerns period... and a personal favorite of mine...
i agree it is under-appreciated...
thanks guys... i'll start writing Criterion about it... the licensing fees are probably next to nothing...

I'd hold off. There are rumors going around that as part of its deal with Paramount, Criterion might get a crack at One-Eyed Jacks. Again, it is rumor but if you have waited this long...

the film deserves the criterion treatment without a doubt...
