The Sims - The movie ... really
So, Fox is planning on turning The Sims (yes, that "The Sims") into a movie (see the Variety article here).
I guess they figure if they can turn Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill into movies, then the Sims is the next logical step, right? The only way direction I can see this going is if they make the film something in the vein of The Truman Show or Stranger than Fiction.
I am now awaiting the announcement of Tetris - The Movie.

I hope it's rated R and they have the god character torture the sims like I do. Nothing better than putting The Sims in a house without any doors and starting a fire, or the other favorite pool without any stairs. I want lots of Sims sex too, complete with the nude patch.

My friend and I had an idea for a Sims movie after the first game it was released. Basically our idea was in the vein of a dark comedy/horror film in which a demonic copy of The Sims is released and a little boy starts controlling everybody in the neighborhood by playing the game.
We actually went as far as to cast people just based off the cover:

Don Rickles was going to play the old guy on the middle left.

OK this is too funny . . . I just posted a spoof post talking about Uwe Bol directing another video game movie, and I almost went with The Sims (I opted for Pong instead)!

(John)Davis' most recent projects include "Norbit," "When A Stranger Calls," and "Eragon."
(Brian)Lynch scripted and helmed upcoming "Big Helium Dog," and penned "Scary Movie 3," and is managed by Benderspink.
Oh yeah, this is gonna be a winner.

Lmao John Davis and Brian Lynch should tell you how good it will be.. but this is such an awful idea lol, because it has to be simlish and that would just be odd.. Oh but add piano fire to the awesome death ways.

A movie based on the video game franchise The Sims is closer to coming to life.
Amazon MGM Studios announced Tuesday that a film is in development based on the long-running Electronic Arts gaming series. Kate Herron, known for directing the Disney+ series Loki, will helm the feature from a script that she is co-writing with Briony Redman.
LuckyChap and Vertigo Entertainment are producing the project with Electronic Arts’ The Sims team. Herron and Redman will serve as executive producers.
The Hollywood Reporter reported in May that the Sims film was in the works. Part of the larger Sim series that launched with SimCity in 1989, the first The Sims game was released in 2000 and allows users to create virtual people, establish their homes and help direct their goals.
The Sims movie is the latest collaboration between LuckyChap and Amazon MGM Studios following My Old Ass, which stars Aubrey Plaza and was released Friday after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival. The two companies were also behind last year’s Saltburn. Additionally, LuckyChap enjoyed massive success with Warner Bros.’ Margot Robbie starrer Barbie, which was the highest-grossing film of 2023 and landed eight Oscar nominations.
Herron served as executive producer and directed the entire first season for the Marvel Studios series Loki. The Tom Hiddleston-led show debuted in 2021 and is Marvel’s most-watched Disney+ program.
The director also worked on Sex Education and the forthcoming second season of HBO’s The Last of Us. Herron and Redman co-wrote an episode for the latest season of Doctor Who.
Herron is represented by Casarotto Ramsay & Associates, CAA, Shelter PR and Jackoway Austen. Redman is repped by Casarotto Ramsay & Associates, CAA and Jackoway Austen.
