PEARL JAM: "Live at the Gorge 05/06" 7CD -6/26/07

Pearl Jam Boxes Up Gorge Shows For June Release

Pearl Jam has boxed up three complete concerts held at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Wash., over the past two years for the aptly named release "Live at the Gorge 05/06." The seven-disc collection will arrive June 26 via the band's own Monkeywrench label.

"Live at the Gorge" rounds up shows from Sept. 1, 2005, and July 22-23, 2006, and features 76 different songs. Fans can pre-order a limited edition of the box starting today (May 2) via the band's Web site.

The Sept. 1, 2005, show is the most popular in the history of the group's live downloads initiative, according to Tim Bierman, who manages Pearl Jam's Ten Club fan organization. The group opened its first Gorge performance in 12 years with a nine-song acoustic set, before launching into a 27-song electric show.

The following July, Pearl Jam wrapped a North American tour in support of its self-titled J debut with a two-night stint the Gorge. Among the rarities unearthed was "Dirty Frank," which had not been played live in 12 years, as well as "Rats" and "Satan's Bed," which had long been absent from the live repertoire prior to the tour.

"Pearl Jam" reinvigorated the veteran Seattle group at retail and radio, spawning the No. 1 Modern Rock hit "World Wide Suicide."

"We've never spent that much time on a record ever; doing demos, redoing songs, tracking them, re-tracking," guitarist Mike McCready tells Billboard.com. "We'd never really done that before. Generally we just go in and record and have it done. This time, it was more scientifically soulful. We were very focused on making the best songs we could make, and there happened to be great energy happening during those sessions."

As previously reported, the group will begin a European tour June 8 in Lisbon and will also play Lollapalooza in Chicago on Aug. 5.

Here's an ambitious question - what PJ album release was NOT played at any of the shows?

On Pearl Jam's web site, the set is $34.99 and includes an exclusive 4-postcard set featuring images from event posters and album art. Will this be available any cheaper anywhere else online like Amazon?

At a glance...Tremor Christ, heyfoxymophandlemommathatsme, Bugs, Red Mosquito, Oceans, Deep, and I'm sure there are more.

They have 8 albums, so it's a lot of songs.

I'd get this... if I didn't already have so many live PJ cds.

That's kind of how I feel about it. I'm as big a PJ fan as you will find but I think I've reached the saturation point on live cd's. I wish they would release some early 90's shows that they have in the vault.

I haven't picked up any of the bootleg sets, so this'll be a good start.

Get Penn State 4 disc and Boston 3 disc.

Seriouslly, those are 2 great sets

Penn State has the distinction of being one of the longest shows ever (45+ songs), 4 hours long

Boston had a great acoustic pre-set and a rockin later set.

This set is available online at Amazon, deepdiscount, cduniverse, etc. so you do not have to be a ten club member to get it. I am not sure if Amazon has the wrong track listing, but they do not list all of the songs.

for Penn State do you mean 05-03-03 - State College, Pennsylvania?

that show is a 3 disc set with 39 tracks.

Already have the MP3(2005) and FLAC(2006) versions that were sold as Basecamp releases, but went ahead and preordered this anyway. It'll be nice to have the actual silvers, properly mixed, and nicely packaged.

Here's what the finished product looks like:

And..I agree, I'd love to see this as a DVD set, as well...but at least two of the three shows are currently circulating in video form, albeit audience-shot.

There was a preorder period on the PJ website exclusively for 10c members - that period expired, and they now offer it to anyone.

The 10c version includes "exclusive postcards" as well as (possibly) different packaging from the retail release.

Tracklist will be the same - three shows, complete - either retail or 10c.
