If they made a G.I. Joe live action movie...

Would we be up in arms about everything the way we are about Transformers? Let's say they decided to make Cobra a corporate conglamorate that funded terrorism, and G.I. Joe was just a small ops. team with few vehicles. Say they were going to make it more of a Mission:Impossible type movie (like the third one) that emphasized teamwork. Oh, and Michael Bay directs and casts Josh Duhamel as Duke, Bernie Mac as Roadblock, and Hugo Weaving as Cobra Commander (now more of a CEO figure).

Or say they made a Thundercats movie where they would only have feline instinct but not the look.

I probably would...

On the internet people will complain about anything and everything. It's just a matter of how many posters interested in the movie have grown up past that and can either 1) enjoy the movie for what it ends up being or 2) decide to put their interest in something else if what is presented is not to their liking.

The Transformers thread beautifully illustrates how many people haven't gotten to that point.

I get your point, but is there another option between just using a name for the sake of the thing rather than creating a whole new property?

There's a way to use something, please fans, and be exciting to non-fans. Look at Spider-man, for example.

Transformers is just an giant robot explosionfest with very random changes to the core characters (and not just lips on Prime). It's disingenuous.

Or Monica Belucci.

I will say, Monica Belucci looks tailor made to play Baroness. They would probably make her of American dissent and cast Jessica Biel or Kate Bosworth in the role.

He can play one of the kids that throws a electrical line in a pool or something in the PSA at the end of the movie.

Prime doesn't have lips.

Well, if we're being serious (this was intended as a joke thread), I always thought Arnold Vosloo would be a decent Destro. I also thought at one point Stephen Sommers could direct, as he seems to have a knack for taking live action movies and making them feel like after-school cartoons. Don't know if that's a good thing or not.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura secured the film rights for a live-action G.I. Joe flick from Hasbro. The Hollywood stock has been trading at HSX for nearly 4 years, though. My guess is that if the Transformers movie does well, we may see movement on these other 80s properties.

Why does that not surprise me? I bet if Transformers tanks this will be put on the backburner for a while.

They'd need Don Johnson to reprise his role as Lt Falcon, and Sgt Slaughter to reprise his role as himself.
