$13.37 - Educational Archives: Limited Edition Lunchbox (4 DVD Box Set)

-

I've been on the lookout for this for a long time.

It seems to have completely disappeared from the brick-and-mortar stores, where it used to retail for around $60. Recently, the cheapest I could find it online was for about $42.

But...

Last week I found it for $13.37 ($19.36 with shipping), ordered it and received it already. I would have posted this earlier but wanted to be sure that the description actually matched what I received.

Here's the link:

By the way, my lunchbox arrived in good condition, but eforcity shipped it in a mylar bar with the lunchbox wrapped in bubblewrap. Luckily for me there was no damage.

NIIICE!!! Thanks OP!!! Just ordered two... one for my dad for his birthday, and one for myself. That price is ridiculous. I've been looking for something like this forever!

eforcity.com is one of the stores that accepts Google Checkout, so you could possibly get this even cheaper if you can get the $10 off offer to work.

bwsmom-

I had the same thought. Looked it up on Amazon ($62.99) and learned this:

DVD Release Date: May 18, 2004
DVD Features:
o 4-disc box set with lunchbox and thermos
o Four volumes: Sex & Drugs, Social Engineering 101, Driver's Ed, On the Job
o Limited edition of 10,000
o Notes on each film by collection curator Skip Elsheimer of the A/V Geeks Education Film Archives
o Volumes 1 & 2: Bonus Interactive Filmstrip
o Volumes 3 & 4: Optional "Classroom Experience" Dolby Digital 5.0 soundtrack

Product Description
Generations of American children sat in dark classrooms and absorbed wisdom from 16mm educational films. Through the flicker of dim projector bulbs and the warble of optical soundtracks, a blueprint for better living in the atomic age was spelled out in no uncertain terms. This collection from the late 1940s to the 1980s is historical, hysterical, and filled with more important misinformation than you can digest in one viewing. Fantoma presents this special, four-volume set in a limited-edition metal lunchbox, complete with working thermos! Volume One: "Sex and Drugs" - Learn about the dangers of marijuana, the difference between boys and girls, and the joys of menstruation in such gems as "LSD: Insight or Insanity," "It's Wonderful Being a Girl," and "Marijuana" (with Sonny Bono). Volume Two: "Social Engineering 101" - Discover how to fit in, keep clean, choose between right and wrong, and behave yourself in the cafeteria. Featuring "Lunchroom Manners," "Soapy the Germ Fighter," "Why Doesn't Cathy Eat Breakfast"," and "Shy Guy." Volume Three: "Driver's Ed" - In the '40s and '50s, America faced a threat even more frightening than the Bomb: teenagers with cars. Discover how we dealt with this new and terrible menace in "The Last Prom," "Joyride," "Safety Belt for Susie," and "Tomorrow's Drivers" (narrated by James Stewart). Volume Four: "On the Job" - Learn about workplace safety and how to fire someone without being shot in "Shake Hands with Danger," "The Grapevine," "The Trouble with Women," "How to Keep a Job," and "When You Grow Up."

After reading that, I'm biting! Thanks rich-y! Potentially a lot of fun material for only $9.36 shipped after GCO.

You are not kidding I JUST freakin' ordered this set at DVDPacific on March 5th for $39.50 PLUS shipping! I thought it was a good price considering each volume alone cost over $10 just by itself. Now it looks like a pretty crappy deal in retrospect. I wonder if it would be worth it to buy this one and return the other one..

Thanks Rich-Y for the heads up on this. I'd only seen the titles individually at Borders, and thought the price was a little steep, but I'm a sucker for educational films (especially at this price!). Also, Fantoma has put out some first-rate products (especially the recent Kenneth Anger short films collection and Forbidden Zone), so I'm confident that the presentation will be decent.

Ahh the crazy shit I order when I'm drinking. Thanks OP. Maybe I'll be inspired to take up harder drugs after these films.

You guys are in for a treat. The films are often uproarious, there are short notes about each film, year it was produced, etc. These have flown under the radar but I've been a big fan since they came out a few years ago. They're all classroom films from the '40s thru the '70s.

If you like 'em, Fantoma released several additional follow-up DVDs outside of the box set.

A very good deal but having been forced to sit in a darkened classroom and watch many of these titles in my youth, you'd have to hold a nuclear missle to my head to make me sit through them again.
