Would You Buy Dennis The Menace '59-'63 Series on DVD?

Hi, I'm trying to guage the interest of The 1959 television series of Dennis The Menace just to see if it's worth getting my hopes up of it ever being released to DVD. I figure that if enough people are interested the more likely that the studio will respond by realeasing it. Since Sony owns it and has released so many other shows I'm surprised this one has been ignored.

There were 4 seasons and 146 episodes (according to the imdb). This used to be one of my favorite shows to watch on Nickelodeon when I was a kid and I haven't seen it for about 18 years. I remember having debates with my friend about which Mr. Wilson was better, I was always was partial to Joseph Kearns over Gale Gordon.

I also loved this show as a kid. Gale Gordon was good but Joseph Kearns was the best Mr. Wilson.

I watched it when I was younger, and it was just OK. As for TV-on-DVD, the only stuff I buy anymore are shows that are not regularly shown on cable or satellite. Which, for me, is offbeat stuff like the BBC's "The Young Ones".

Give me a boxset of the Joseph Kearns episodes, and I'd be in!

I just returned from Costco to find that they have "Alias Smith and Jones" on DVD! If we can put a man on the moon, and produce a DVD of THAT series, surely Dennis the Menace deserves to be released!

Count me in for the complete series if it is ever released. Haven't seen it in years but loved the show. I thought Joseph Kearns was the better Mr. Wilson but Gale Gordon wasn't too bad of a replacement.

Also love to see the remaining seasons of Leave it to Beaver released on DVD. Another great classic series from around the same time period. Sad Universal has failed to release any new sets in awhile.

I liked the show. I would watch it on tv when and if it would come on, but I don't think I would buy the dvd set.

I've had a change of heart. With all of the stupid crap coming out on TV these days, I think that I now would try it out.

I liked it a lot. I would probably buy it over a lot of other shows of that era. I am collecting the Dennis The Menace hardcovers right now.

I pretty much find that anything I enjoyed as a kid is unwatchable now. Of course, the last time I saw this show was during its initial run.

That is sadly true for me as well. Yet I like having them around jjust the same. I'm hoping some day I'll just be able to sit down and spend a whole day watching Masters of The Universe or something without falling asleep for lack of interest.

I am glad to see there is some interest in the show though.

Sorry, no. I wouldn't mind watching an episode or two if I happened upon it, but I don't see myself wanting to own the full series.

On the other hand, I would be extremely interested in owning the full series of another CBS show that also ran from '59-'63: The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.

An unreasonable price would be the only thing that could possibly deter me from buying every single episode.

I'll rent to relive the memories. I'm past the age of buying cartoons for myself.

I agree. I have fond memories of some shows from childhood that just don't do it for me anymore. Although in this case I only vaguely recall DtM but I suspect it's not something I would buy.

We're talking about the live action series.
