The Fountain - Due 5/15/07

Warner Home Video has officially announced Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain for release on May 15th. The film arrives in separate anamorphic widescreen and fullscreen editions, each featuring Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. Bonus materials will include a six-part "Inside The Fountain: Death and Rebirth" documentary and trailers. Retail is $27.95.

Also look for HD-DVD Combo and Blu-ray Disc editions day-and-date with retail $39.99 and $34.99, respectively.

Interesting movie, uninteresting cover. Definitely will rent it, though...

This was far and away my favorite movie going experience of last year. I love Arronofsky's work and will be there day and date for this one despite the absolutely attrocious cover.

Thank goodness. I really wanted to see this, but it didn't play anywhere near me. I look forward to checking it out, no matter how ugly that cover is.

I think a black cover with just "The Fountain" on it would be better...

The cover makes me pine for the days of DVDcoverart.com.....

amazon.co.uk posts this as the DVD cover, but it's obviously the poster. The UK editions usually don't rely on "floating heads" so this might be what the DVD will look like...

I've heard so many mixed reviews on this movie I am not sure what to think. I might have to rent it at least to check it out.

Great film! Too bad the cover art isn't just a shot of the tree of life.

Cover sucks, but I for one can't wait for this release. I thought they were stopping the HD-DVD Combo's?

Same here. I was excited when they showed clips at Comic-Con but, once the movie came out, it seemed to have lost something. I'll rent it and, hopefully, an SE will be released with a better cover.

DVD artwork never ceases to amaze me. The studios spend thousands upon thousands of dollars to come up with theatrical one-sheet campaigns (with tons of choices for the filmmakers to choose from), and then they ditch them all in favor of photoshopped head shots for the home video release.

I loved this film, will be there on release day.

Hope that documentary is lengthy and in-depth! I'll need something to hold me over until the Special Edition.

I can just see the studio heads having a meeting about this...discussing why did the movie not do to well at the box office and concluding it's because their posters didn't have any floating heads, so they will just fix it for the DVD release!

Gotta try to think like a studio exec here!

Whoever OK'd that cover needs to be beaten Passion-style for ruining a great film with shoddy art.
