"Fantastic Four" double dip?
I don't know where the last thread is for Fantastic Four, so I'm just going to start a new one.
Wasn't there a double dip for this? I know Fox released single-disc editions for The Day After Tomorrow, I, Robot, and one other. Then, several months later, each was given a 2-disc collector's edition. I thought I remembered that the initial release of FF was minimal, and was succeeded by a more elaborate one. But Rewind shows only one release for R1, which looks quite good.
Then again, I also remember talk of something new planned as a tie-in with the sequel. Is that the double dip of which I'm thinking?
--THX

Fox always screws us over on their Special Editions. Region 2 gets the 2-disc right from the start, yet we have to wait awhile before we get to buy it. I'm sure we'll get the same 2D set of X3 eventually.
I'm hoping the new FF set will have a director's cut. This film went by too quickly, similar to Daredevil's theatrical version. I loved the dir cut of that film.

Oddly this movie was released in 2 versions,
an "American" cut and an "International" cut.
a few alternate scenes, and also different audio in some scenes too.
Most likely, before the sequel fox will release a 2 disc set for the US
with just the same extras as the foreign discs, and add one more featurette on the sequel or movie cash for it, and also call it 'The Director's Cut'......

There were two different exclusive bonus discs offered when this title was first release. I think Wal-Mart and Target. Anyway, many of the features that are on the 2nd disc that other regions received are on these 2 bonus discs. The pop up sometimes on eBay...
I have both, so a double dip may not be in my future...

The Wal-Mart bonus disc was a cut-down version of the "Heroes Are Born Making Of Fantastic Four" documentary. I think they cut out like 30 or 40 minutes.
The Target disc had "The Baxter Building Declassified", another small feature & tons of trailers.

There was also a Best Buy exclusive, it was a collection of comic books on DVD or CD.
Edit to add: And special packaging, a round tin. I think it came with a comic book too.

Great to see both theatrical and extended cuts are being included.
From what I can see, it adds much from the R2 release, but drops items from the single-disc. Namely, Jessica Alba's video diary, the fluffy featurettes, and the music videos. Not sure if any of those are worth having.

It's hard to believe anyone would buy this again after watching it.
I bought the version in the metal BB tin sight unseen (stupid I know)
and hated it so much I ended up giving it away to someone.
Worst packaging ever, which was consistent with the film at least...

Sorry, I'm still bitter about it. I hate when franchises I am interested in get 'stolen' by bad filmmaking which means I can't enjoy them. Same with LoEG and Spider-Man (yes I think the SM franchise is atrocious, sorry again)

But with something as varied as Spider-Man or Superman, with so many interpretations of the characters, 90% of which are crap, I don't feel like I can complain as much if a movie or book version "gets it wrong".
The Spider-Man movies are infinitely better than most of his comic stories.
Not trying to disrespect your opinion, I can see not being head over heels for the SM movies, or wishing that it was closer to your particular interpretation of the character. But atrocious?
