Open Water 2??

Hey, sorry if this was discussed anywhere else, I searched and couldnt find anything.
I was searching around IMDB and stumbled upon a Open Water 2? Seems like its been out in other countries but nothing listed for the US. Seems like an odd sequel, but I actually really liked the trailer. (Im a sucker for bad shark movies- shark attack series, lol)
Anyone know anything about it? (the one girl from Point Pleasant is in it)

Looks like crap. They can't get up the ladder?

Also, here is the only trailer I could find not in German: http://film.virgin.net/synopsis/syno...railersarchive

Yeah, this is just a bad idea. I heard about it a couple of weeks ago and I still don't get how they think this was a good idea for a sequel! The first one I liked just because you knew it was based on a true story, this one is just dumb.

Plus, you already know how it is going to end, so why even bother going to see it?

Where does it say anything about this being a sequel?

Even if it's not based on the same couple, it is somewhat of a sequel bc it is based on the same premise. The story is a little different, but come on, it's basically the same movie again.

Open Water 2! OR the movie which least needed a sequel.

You may remember Open Water a movie about two stranded tourists that combined the most boring part of The Blair With Project with the most exciting part of your grandmother's YMCA aquatics class. Made for about $130,000, it ended up grossing over $30 million.

Well... lookee here:

Now, obviously this has nothing to do with Chris Kentis's original and it seems to also be based on a true story. I get the feeling though that this was just taking a German-produced movie and retitling it Open Water 2 for the US market, the most boneheaded insult to our intelligence I've seen LGF do in some time.

So has anyone seen this movie (Adrift-) er, Open Water 2?

I love Open Water, very under appreciated.

But from what I heard, LGF just retitled it for better reconizability in the states.

Is this the one where they forget to put the ladder down on the boat and then can't get back in?

I'll pass...

I agree, it works because it plays on so many fears; deep water, abandonment, getting lost, being eaten alive, sharks, dark, etc...

The ending is pretty good, IMHO, too. Not what you expected.

Pretty lame that they would retitle a foreign-made film into a sequel to an American film. Kinda reminds how Dario Argento took Romero's version of Dawn of the Dead and turned it into Zombi (which spawned its own franchise, separate from Romero's Dead movies).

I thought the movie was a big rip-off.

Spoiler:
Supposedly true. You watch the film thinking how awful it would be to go through this. You wonder if only one or both survive to tell the tale. Come to find out they never found them, nobody knows what happened, they just made it all up.

Who made it up? From what I gather, the writer/director based it off some article in which he read that a couple went out scubbing and the team forgot them.

But yes, gijon213, great atmosphere and natural scares. The best I believe is its impending doom that you start to feel as it wears on for the couple.

The couple were forgotten, end of story. Nobody knows what happened. It's all "what if". For all we know they died an 15 minutes after the boat left them.
If that's the criteria for 'true" story than a movie about Amelia Earhart being abducted by aliens could be call a true story.

Yeah, but that's what really happened.

Correct. The setup was all based on facts. At the point where they are left, it is all fiction. I would think it is safe to assume a rescue team was sent out as well, and
Spoiler:
they were never found so the ending is probably true as well.

I don't see the problem with filling in the holes.

I watched Adrift yesterday. It's hard to say if I enjoyed this more or less than Open Water (which I liked, but it's only worth a single viewing). Initially, Adrift rubbed me the wrong way, because a few of the characters -- none whose names I can even recall -- are downright irritating, spoiled 20-somethings and I had a hard time feeling any sympathy as the situation is brought on by their own carelessness. Still, the higher number of people involved and a few weighing factors serve to make this one a bit less narrow in scope than Open Water was.

As things progress and a few of them are, uh, "eliminated" it becomes more engaging. There are still some wildly irresponsible and almost nonsensical actions made (I'd be curious to know how much of the story is accurate and how much is sensationalized) that frustrated me, and the end is oddly edited (I didn't skip back to watch the last few minutes a second time, so it isn't exactly clear to me what the outcome really was, although I have a good idea).

Again, good for a single viewing if you enjoyed OW, but nothing spectactular.

Exactly. Do the people complaining get mad at every movie that is "based on true events" because it is impossible to get every action correct much less every word of every conversation that happened between the "real" people these movies portray.

All "based on true events" movies fill in the blanks.
